Anyone eat raw oatmeal?

Used to blend it up into a fine powder and then add it to my protein shakes.

I just got bloodwork done and my A1C is so low my doctor told me that I should add more carbs into my diet. So think I might start doing that again.

Uncooked oats, much like uncooked flour, can have bacteria in it that you don't want to consume. These would be destroyed by cooking the oat / flour.

You could probably get away with doing it 99 times without getting sick, but eventually you may end up with food poisoning.

The statement on the label is to protect the company from you suing them when you get sick.

Knew a guy that inhaled some flour when his brother played a prank on him. A bag of flour was dumped behind a shop fan when he entered a workshop.

He got a lung infection and was hospitalized for two months.

arnt the oats proccessed already to an extent? i might be wrong though.

Raw oatmeal?!
They’re called oats. Lay off the dope for awhile.
oatmeal ≠ oats

One of those errors that shows how far we've gone away from the recent past, when everyone would have been acquainted with agriculture, raw products, horses, milling etc.

No, you’re right. I mentioned the oats you buy have all been cooked in some way, but people are morons and still think they’re eating raw oats.

I remember eating steel-cut oats for the first time and it took forever to cook and I ate it undercooked LOL

I like to put granola on my yogurt, but I ran out, so today I just dumped some raw oatmeal and a few walnuts on it. I figure it's probably healthier without all the sugar anyway.

Anyhoo, the package says not to eat it raw. I don't understand why.
Been eating oats raw for years. Throw them in shakes, yogurt, anything.

Ate u cooked rolled oats for years...

@KnightTemplar would you concur? 🤔

Personally I would not use an Ingmar Bergman movie as a source to why you should not eat certain foods.
Btw "raw" (they are steamed) oatmeal with milk and sugar are a common breakfast dish in several of the Nordic countries. Often with fruit or berries added.
I never heard of anybody dying from a burst stomach because of it.

Was gonna say this. In Germany most healthy cereals are oatmeal based, but i don t know how cooked or raw these are.

After reading your post I just checked my box of oats.
And it says they are "steam prepared".
I think thats common.

I am still baffled about the whole OMG your stomach can burst!!1

No, I'm not a horse.

As a kid though I loved Cheerios oat cereal. It was my favorite. Never had a craving for raw oats but imagine it wouldn't be horrible.

They can’t cause your stomach to burst any more than birds can explode from eating rice. But they are partially dehydrated after cooking/steaming, so they absorb a good bit of moisture and do expand a little.

I think you would have to overeat and over drink water.
So it would not be much of a diet :D
