Looking for somewhere to go for a few days and realized I've never been to the Gulf Coast. Gf wants to go to the beach so this place looked alright. Anyone been there?

Went about ten years ago before the hurricane. There's a decent steakhouse there if it hasn't been wiped out of existence but the beach alone was fun and there's an amusement park nearby.

If that hasn't also been wiped out of existence.

I have been there. There is a offshore oil drilling museum. It is pretty cool. You learn a lot. In fact, if I had the equipment, I think I can probably go do it myself.

And there is supposedly this big thing that the Tillman Fertitta Crime family owns which is some entertainment complex with restaurants, ferris wheel, or something. It is like a pier with food, and bars.

No I haven’t, but I did stay in Holiday Inn Express last night and banged your mom

Are you in the Houston area and this is just convenient for you? Galveston isn't exactly a shining example of the Gulf. It's also going to be pretty cold this time of year unless you go down to about Naples, FL. If you want to stay in Texas, South Padre would be better unless that's still too far for you. Still, I suppose Galveston is better than nothing. Good luck.

skip it.

south padres water is nicer, Galveston has too much brown water from the mississippi

Was just there last week. It sucks for the most part. Water is brown, not really alot of cool places to visit. Pleasure pier is OK just a couple of shitty carnival rides and sub par expensive ass food. Went fishing for Reds only caught some ugly small Catfish. One good place to eat if you like fried seafood is Shrimp and stuff. Hit that place up.

Galveston is pretty sub par tho, if talking TX beaches South Padre Island over All.

I'm in Vegas and just wanted to go somewhere different. We always go to California. Not that it isn't awesome there

Just looked it up. Seems much nicer for sure
me and the missus went 2 years ago. not much to do and not very many good restaurants except for this gourmet burger joint and brewery but we just chilled on the beach for 5 days

Yeah the gf just wants to sit on the beach whereas I actually like to do stuff like museums, hiking , kayaking etc. South Padre looks nice

In that case, I'd really recommend flying to Florida. And this time of year, you really want to be Naples or south so you can actually swim in the water. I'd recommend Key West, but if that's too booked up, then Naples or somewhere around there is nice too. If you're not too hung up on it being Gulf Coast, then from about Palm Beach down to the Keys in the East Coast is also great. Warmer water too. Key West is special because it's both Gulf Coast and Atlantic and it's damn near Caribbean although technically it's not the Caribbean. But it's the closest you'll get in the Continental US and the water is beautiful and warm.

We're planning on going to Key West this summer for a week or more. This was just a surprise 4 day weekend I got.

that entertainment pier area is pretty cool, but if beach you're looking for, head more south to SPI.

Do yourself a Favor, and go somewhere else! Water is dirt colored. Food sucks and is overpriced. Traffic is horrible. Like @Jackie Blue said; goto Florida.

Oh okay. In that case, I'd recommend Naples on the Gulf or Miami Beach on the Atlantic. I'm sure you're gonna love Key West this summer...
