How to fix windows media player:

Stop using it

:)

In all seriousness, what is actually up?

Given the lack if info in the OP, I would recommend installing VLC player. /thread

Whats VLC player?

The problems i'm having are first I converted some songs from youtube the other day and an unknown folder has created itself but with no song in it and I can't do anything to it and it doesn't stop getting information for it. It's been there for days.

The second is in two music albums when I change the pictures for an album it automatically makes the same image for 3 other albums. Again i've tried fixing but it refuses to.

And thirdly how do I update windows media player? I dunno what version i'm on at the min but don't think it's the latest.

I'm on a windows 7 lap top by the way.

Google the exact problem. About 10,000 people have had the same problem, and the answer is already out there on a computer forum.

How do I word it though? I have posted this same question on the windows forums but this site has so much traffic there's bound to be a few techs here.

Media Player Classic Home Cinema and VLC will pretty much cover all your bases

If you only use it for music, I would just download iTunes. I'm not an Apple fan at all, but iTunes is a lot better than WMP for music purposes.

Both problems sounds like issues with the pathway between files. You could delete the music and reload it, should solve the issues.

What's this VLC?

And I would just delete it but I've spent to much time organizing it to do it all again.

There should be a fix?

I also use Itunes but WMP iis better as you can do more and make it how you want.

I didnt believe someone out there was actually using it, this is so exciting.

Download VLC and itunes, problem solved.

Slightly off topic,

HELP?

I have some vids I want to watch in MP4, they work on my home computer but not at work.

If I try to open using quicktime player I get this message:
"This application has failed to start because Appleversions.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

If I try opening with Windows Media PLayer, its says
"The selected file has an extension (.mp4) that is not recognised by Windows Media player. but the player may still be able to play it, blah blah only from a trusted source".
And then it doesn't work.

Any ideas?
Or appropriate search phrases???

Would VLC fix this issue?

VLC is one of the best for playing videos; I've never used it for music. If you are having problems playing any video file, downloading VLC should solve it. It uses a lot of codecs that WMP doesn't. You'll actually be able to play more videos in WMP after you install VLC.

As far as the music file problem, I'm not sure what to tell you. I've used iTunes for years and have never had that problem, but I've experienced weird problems, similar to the one you are talking about, when I used WMP on a work computer.

Solutions? I would again recommend iTunes. I don't know what you can do on WMP that you can't on iTunes. If you don't want to do that, just delete the songs/albums that are giving you issues and reload them. It sounds like some of the file paths are crossed somewhere, so you'll either have to move them from the folder they are saved in on your harddrive, or delete them from WMP and reload them.

As far as the folder from the YouTube songs, not sure what to tell you. For some reason, your computer thinks the folder is in use. You could try deleting it from the registry, but I have never done that on Windows 7. Type regedit in the search bar under the start menu, and find the folder from there. You should be able to delete the folder from there.
