Anybody knows why Rogan was surprised at Khabib's striking? (+Al's stance)

Like he never paid attention to any of Khabib's fight? It's obvious that Khabib's striking is not top level, but everybody knows that. I think when Khabib watches this fight and hears Rogan calling him amateurish in any aspect will piss him off. Watch next time he doesn't give Rogan his hat ;)

Also, Khabib didn't get those takedowns in round 4 because Al' stance was super low. That's not the style Tony or Conor use. Some of you say that this Khabib would lose to bose Tony and Conor. He could of course but this fight has nothing to do with it. IF Tony or Conor change their stances to be like Al's their striking won't be that effective anymore.

My thoughts exactly, however I think from a lowered stance with his lunging ability Conor can still land solid uppercuts. Also Tony does fight with different stances with his freestyle movements and at times he gets low too. Changing so much for one fight though is a bit much at the top level though especially for the belt against an undefeated fighter. If a lighter Mendes can take him down, and so can Nate Diaz I'm pretty sure Khabib can.

I usually don't mind Rogan, but last night he was way off. Calling fighters gassed when they clearly weren't. Also calling strikes that never landed "a good shot". The older this guy gets the more off he seems to be.

Al was trying HARD not to get taken down, hence why khabib was easily outstriking him.

Some people don’t get that. I guess they never will.

Khabib isn't that sensitive to criticism.

Mental gymnastics.

Khabib has substantial cardio issues.

He was getting consistently stuffed and went 7 for 15 in take downs against a community college wrestler who didn’t even train for 5 rounds.

If khabib can’t improve his cardio Tony will absolutely smash him.

Alvarez and Kevin Lee possibly JG will give him a lot of trouble too.

When he’s fresh, khabib is the most dominant light weight in the world. He looks completely average after two rounds.

Rogan was really getting shitty about Khabib's performance in rounds 3 and 4 which made no sense to me considering how handily he was winning the standup exchanges. If you're jabbing the shit out of your opponent's face and turning it to hamburger with precious little coming back at you,why bother pursuing a difficult take down that your opponent is obviously prepared for? Once he had Iaquinta hurt in the 5th he got another take down and all was well with the cosmos. Yeah, he hangs his chin out there more than he should, but if it helps him see what's coming at him and he's not paying for it then it's clearly working out all right for him.

As an aside, was Dana serious about never booking a Khabib/T-Ferg championship match again? I get his reasoning why (the fight appears to be cursed) but that's still the match we need to see at 155. Conor should be stripped and made to fight Chiesa next.

You can tell how much people unwillingly respect Khabib when they give Al Iaquinta so much credit just for a moral victory (It was 50-43 on two judges scorecards, that's unheard of)

Considering the fiasco that 223 turned into, Khabib/Tony is a question that remains unanswered. It would be in the UFC’s best interest to try and answer it, but most likely Khabib will fight Conor.

I think he was trying to exaggerate how bad it is so he could inject something like "well if he tries that w a striker like Ferguson or Conor...", like, for dramatic effect? Maybe? He's an idiot, nothing new here. Khabib's striking is Ronda-level bad but at least he had that jab going all day long. I didn't feel it warranted incredulousness of any sort, there's far worse than his.

You realize 7/15 is a good percentage for MMA right? Eddie Alvarez td% is 28 and Kevin Lee 42 for comparison.

After last night we need to see TF vs Khabib more than ever. Tony might be away for a long time, but if the stars align I'm sure they book it again.

Khabib's technique has a lot of rough patches but he fights very well with what he has tactically. He's never been a good/frequent jabber but that was the perfect punch against Al and he abused it. He also landed a few good strikes and stunned Al in the fifth with something.

Al could out strike Khabib in my opinion, but the moment he starts throwing combos and putting himself in an angle to land punches Khabib is going to be using that to clinch up or hit a takedown.

I dont think Tony or Conor could have as much time standing as Al did in a fight with Khabib, but they would let their strikes go 4x as much in half the time, so they actually have a chance to make something happen.

I think joe realized the difference between khabib’s wrestling advantage over opponents is the same advantage his opponents will have over him.

If a fighter can keep the fight standing with khabib they truly do have a shot at winning.

He’ll obviously be the favourite against everyone he fights from here on out but Conor and tony definitely have a shot at beating him. It’s unlikely but it wouldn’t be shocking.

Conor and Tony will probably be favourites over him now to be honest.

He seems to commentate from a perspective of what he wants to happen with a bias compared to just objective analysis.

Exactly, the reason for this was his low fighting stance. With this, he minimized Khabibs ability to get the takedowns. The downside of this stance is, that you will lose mobility (the reason he ate a lot of jabs). It also makes it a lot harder to throw fast and accurate strikes.

Fear of a takedown does crazy things to guys. Doubt it works against tony tho

Totally, my dude.

Overall, al is the better striker. Sure. But he wasn’t trying to strike with khabib. He wanted to survive. You can’t outstrick Khabib AND win the fight. Doesn’t work like that.
