Any ufc fighters directly from Shootfighting gyms/dojos?

I believe so. He expanded into BJJ likely because it was just becoming more popular and thus more resources for it.

I dont know if he "fights" like a BJJ guy though (outside of having a pretty good wrestling foundation, which he likely got from catch). But yeah, he started grappling with catch wrestling.

Isn’t Aspinalls dad a bjj black belt with his own school?

Shooto has basically become MMA. Even on the official website it says “SHOOTO - Professional MMA Japan” Shooto website
In all my years training in Japan post 2013, I never really came across much “Shooto”. It was mostly used as an old school term but all the training is MMA. There is no secret method or training in Shooto that can help become great in MMA. The sport has simply advanced beyond shooto, just like smartphones eventually outclassed flip phones in Japan. Yes, there was a time when flip phones in Japan were comparatively advanced, being able to do games, banking, video, etc. way before iPhones. Same with Shooto - was advanced decades ago compared to early UFC MMA but now it’s been washed in the sands of time. Whatever doesn’t evolve disappears.
