I'm attending the Rio Olympics in 5 weeks. I'm reading conflicting reports on whether Brazil will be ready in time for the Olympics. Any Sherdoggers living in Rio can provide any insights? Do the stadiums and infrastructures look like they'll be finished in 5 weeks time?

How the fuck did this country receive the votes to host the Olympic games when they can't even afford it. And now the Games will put them even further in debt. Fucking embarrassing. Not that the Olympics haven't been a complete joke for the longest time.

They had the World Cup too 2 years ago and that was a shambles. The income from that went to all the men in suits and there were protests during the games by the everyday people.

Did they have to build new stadiums for that though? I thought Brazil has a large Soccer league with big stadiums already.

there were a few new ones built in areas with no teams

The Arena Amazonia in the jungle city of Manaus cost $300 million to build, even though there's no top-flight team in the town and it's hundreds of miles from the more populated areas of Brazil.

The Estadio Nacional in Brasilia, the most expensive of the stadiums, is being used as a bus parking lot. The stadium cost $550 million to build, NPR reports, but without a top-division team in the capital it has little use after hosting seven World Cup games.

Others have closed too.

They'll get some playtime for the Olympics but that's about it

Two things
Olympic committee is a bunch of free loading scammers that try to bankrupt host cities

Brazil bunch of misfits can't get their act together

This is almost the equivalent to Qatar being awarded the World Cup. There is so much corruption in the voting process. It's disgusting. I hope this Olympics is a fucking disaster.

legit nobody wants to host the fucking olympics anymore cuz it's expensive as fuck. it doesn't help that brazil doesn't know what it's doing. at this point, they really need a single dedicated location for this.

Sounds like the people to need look up the term "revolt".

Weren't they saying the same shit with Athens 12 years ago, but at the eleventh hour they were (mostly) ready?

Maybe Rio needs to borrow some of that sweet sweet borderline slave labour from Dubai to get this shit done right.

Who the fuck votes to have the Olympics in shamble countries (to be fair, Brazil financial outlook was much better when the won the bid) AND also votes on getting rid of wrestling??

Get your shit together, IOC

They like to think they are helping these shitty countries, but what they are really doing is making them finance massive projects with zero gain. They really need to stop going to 3rd world counties and just stick to big cities that can afford to have it.

They are still trying to fish the shit out of the river

I refuse to watch any olympics until wrestling returns, absolutely fucking embarrassing.

Wrestling is still active in the olympics; some of my university schoolmates and former HS wrestling teammate are competing this year in it.

It is strange cities like Manaus or Brasilia dont have popular enough football teams to warrant a big stadium. I mean what the hell do they do over there?
