I haven't been at Kadena since 1994, but it is easily the best base to be on in Oki...I had the unfortunate pleasure of living on Schwab...but it is cool that there are training places for you guys now

John Frankl is the founder of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Korea. John trained another eight years with Roberto Maia, founder of Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, an original Gracie Barra black belt under Carlos Gracie, Jr., and the cousin of Renzo Gracie and the Machado Brothers. Under Roberto, John received his purple, brown, and black belts. In Boston, he studied and taught at the Gracie Barra Academy, Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He served not only as a Jiu Jitsu instructor but also as head instructor and coach of the Vale Tudo team. He also competed in and won both Sport Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts contests. John is also certified as a Full Instructor with the Straighblast Gym International and serves as their Regional Director for East Asia.

i was looking to start a class on Osan from mon-thurs. Then fri/sat/sun train out in Seoul. It would be perfect if the mentioned gym trained fri/sat/and sun.

Do you know their schedule?

Doc is a blue belt but what we have always have done is the ranking belt is offered the class. its actually a club. We have a purple belt in sambo that takes charge of the class one M and W right now because Doc is teaching. His name is Tim. (the second link will show about him) we don't charge. but i know if you would go to that and offer the tuesdays and thursday... people would definitely go because the schedules out there are annoying and hard to get a good deal of training. A few army combatives come out every now and then. they train on Tues and Thurs but they even say our club is stronger and a better learning environment. It is open to anyone interested. I am a white belt under Frankl and Tim and Doc. But i went back home to Louisiana and tapped a few blue belts at three different. Not to say i should be a blue but to show you that the training between both of these classes are quality.

By the Way. When are you planning on going because one i can get some leave in the books i am planning on going down there for a week or two to see my fiancee. and i have her permission ugh. I TOLD her i was going roll with my old crew lol. Let me know what your plans are.

And as for BLANCO i believe said. Yes thats who we train with when we have the time. its usually saturdays but we have been known to go up there during the week. He has some Very good purple belts and really good blues. Steve is a brown belt. not sure if he is the only brown but he is amazing. at least to me but im just a WHITEY

Hope this helps

well that is good. i look foward to heading out there meeting your team and growing with you guys in jiu jitsu. i am supposed to be there in July. is there anyway you can hook me up with some guys out there so i can have some friends before i make it to korea?
if you want i will PM you my last name because i am in the global. thanks for your help!

God I wish I was in PACAF. AFSPC sucks, you can pretty much forget about doing any kind of serious grappling if you get stuck here.

I was out there a few months ago. I didn't see anything formal, but you could always find people grappling at the main gym. Just check out those little side rooms. You just might see some people going at it in there.

went out there for annual tour a couple of years ago, but my mind wasn't on grappling. was also at yokota last year and had a chance to check out the kodokan, paraestra, and yokota's very own top team.

If you are any good you can check out Mitsuhisa Sunabe's Pancrase gym "Hybrid Wrestling Mugen" in Naha.
