Makhov was signed by the UFC in 2015 and was supposed to make his UFC debut after the 2016 Olympics, but there hasn't been any news yet.

I couldn't find anything on google either. Anyone know what's going on with him? Will he still transition to MMA?

I hope he does, since the UFC could really use some good talent at HW. Makhov is a huge dude and an Olympic medalist, so he has a lot of potential. Especially if he can get a decent striking game.

knocked out in the qualifiers in rio (Strange how loads of russians suddenly did really badly in Rio), and basically threw his toys out of the pram, year out, doesnt know if he will be back, wont be fighting in MMA

I mean, seriously, if you google the fourth link is sherdog thread :D

To what extent exactly did you "google"?

He never retired, but he just said he would take time off training to spend it with his son and wife. No news yet.

He would most likely be a flop in the UFC anyway. Being a high level wrestler isn't a superpower in MMA anymore, Tim Johnson destroys him unless he happens to be some natural striker/fighter.

Tim Johnsons a beast though so that isnt really an insult

That link does not show up when I google Bilyal Makhov  . Weird. That thread does not show up when I search on Sherdog either.

I hope he comes to MMA after spending some time with his family. The HW division needs some good talent.

Can you name any world class wrestlers that have flopped in MMA in the last 5 years? How about the same criteria but 185 and up? Of all the fighters I can think of with legit international level wrestling or sambo (a form of wrestling) credentials I cant think of any flops.

Maybe shift your hopes toward the Iranian Greco World champ who is already like 6-1 MMA. He just got KOd by Crocop but hes still green.

Seems like a decent prospect. But he got banned from wrestling because he failed multiple drugs tests. He probably won't like USADA

Ioannis Arzoumanidis is also a HW greek multi world medalist wrestler who is rumored to be fighting soon.
There is also Cuban world/Olympic medalist HW Michel Batista who is now fighting.
Not as exciting as Makhov but really good wrestlers.

I think USADA is going to ruin it for a whole lot of fighters who have been juicing. That goes for fighters and other athletes. Makhov was probably using too. I think pretty much all athletes at the highest level use something. I think fans thought they wanted USADA but are going to be greatly disappointed.

That's why he fought Cro Cop in Rizin

I don't disagree. I think most high level athletes use stuff as well.

But the thing is, Aliakbari wasn't able to pass tests while other guys were. IDK why that is. Maybe he was careless or maybe he was using stuff that was known to WADA or whoever it was that tested him? Or maybe he was using in very high doses? IDK.

If it should be a wrestler ,than it should be Taha Akgul from Turkey.
He already beat Bilyal in wrestling

According to this article https://matchtv.ru/boxing/matchtvne...orcy_Mahov_i_Gacalov_gotovatsa_podratsa_v_MMA (it was posted a week ago) Makhov would like to debut in UFC in 2017. Also Khadzhimurat Gatsalov says in this article that Khabib said that his manager will help Gatsalov with signing to promotion. Says that he plans to debut in mma in US in LHW division. But sounds like he is not 100 % sure. Said that when he will be sure that he can be competitive at the highest level in mma he will start participate in sparrings.

He's not coming, he said he'd be taking time out but no longer planned to come to MMA.
