no one cares about bartending school this is true. And yes hot chicks are always in demand, however a GOOD professional male bartender can find work.

One thing I need to add though, here in WA or at least my town you have to have taken an online bartending class which is MORE about knowing how to spot people that are too drunk as well as proper mixing. AND a food handler's permit.

In one hand, I hear that if you work your way up as barback you get more respect and other places take you seriously because you paid your dues.

On the other hand, the bartending school that I have an eye on lets you practice as much as you like once the course is over even if years has passed. They mentioned that if you keep either the receipt or certification you can still come down to practice for free of charge regardless how long ago it was that you took the course.

So now I am at a cross road here...

You practice during the downtimes at the bar in front of people like me, who only go in when there is not many people so they can whine, complain, lean on the bartenders shoulder, and just let it all out to someone who will never complain, berate, or look uninterested in my plight because their livelihood depends on it.

Ive never been a bartender but from where Im standing I think you have a much better chance of making money as a bartender by being a female than a male... chicks are not used to spend much money on a bar setting and dudes are the ones who would leave a big tip to a hot female bartender because they "think"there is a chance she would sleep with them... Ive left a good tip to male bartenders because they were cool but meehhh nothing that I think they would think is a HUGE tip.

If you work at a gay bar then you could get good tips if you "work it" same thing if you work at an old ladies place (but are those the type of places you would want to work in)

Of course if you work at a super popular place in your area then you will make good money but isnt that what aalll bartenders in your are will be fighting for?

I thought bartending school is considered unnecessary.

And why not try to a cook? You can apprentice within a high quality place. There are plenty of chef extraordinaire on here.

Cooking is definitely the way to go. Granted, the hours are lousy and the pay sucks, you'll meet and spend all your time with career fuck ups instead of hot chicks, it's mentally and physically grueling, you'll hear the chit machine in your sleep, and you'll break your body and liver apart faster than a pro athlete.

On the plus side, you don't have to talk to customers.

Do both. Find a bar back position and then enroll at the school. This is also a great way to filter out any bs you might be learning they doesn't really work in the real world.
