The nazis co-opted the term ''socialist'' because socialism at the time in Europe (and especially in Germany, a nation with a strong socialist tradition) was popular, they did it to gain political currency with some portions of the working class and the way Hitler defined socialism was absolutely nonsensical, he said that '
'socialism unlike marxism does not repudiate private property'', he was basicly just making shit up, the basis of his ideology was race and nationalism, not class struggle or any other tenets of socialist theory for that matter. I mean just the concept of Internationalism (repudiating nationalism in favour of class solidarity across borders) is like garlic to a vampire for a nazi.
When it comes to their economic policies, the nazis did mass privatization of a lot of State enterprises (steel, mining, railways, banks, etc), as a matter of fact the word ''privatization'' was coined with the nazis: Reprivatisierung. And they were in cahoots with certain big industrialists with mutually favorable agreements (like getting rid of the bothersome unions and their strikes, which Hitler outlawed), they were interventionists in the economy and they directed a lot of it but not in a socialist sense at all, shit still remained in the hands of private capital, the profit motive was still there and the rich got richer (the return on capital skyrocketed under the nazis while worked hours increased and real wages decreased).
Moreover ideologically the nazis were anti-immigration, anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-minorities, anti-modernist, anti gender equality and so on, which are all attitudes you find among the right wing crowd, not among socialists.
Now if you define socialism as ''gun control'' (which isn't a socialist tenet:
