Jon Jones is beatable, very beatable,” Smith told Morning Kombat. “He’s not that good. Not individually. If you take his individual skill sets and you take them away, each one of those things are not a problem. It’s when you put them together, and he puts it into the full package it’s the problem. His fight IQ is not crazy high. He’s well-coached and he does what he’s told, very, very well. And that’s a credit to him. I’m not saying it as a negative, I don’t think it’s a negative. He’s a dog for sure.

“But if you take his boxing, if Jon and I were to just box, I don’t think he’s the G.O.A.T. Like I think we have a very competitive striking match. If we’re just doing no-gi jiu-jitsu, like I don’t think Jon Jones beats me in a jiu-jitsu match. Wrestling, he probably wins that. But it’s not the individual skill set that he has, it’s the way he puts it together.”

No shit Sherlock, it's MMA

He’s right. Jones is very beatable. So was GSP. Yeah he had decent wrestling, but his striking and bjj were average. Anderson was also very beatable. Good striking, but his wrestling sucked. Khabib was also extremely easy to beat. None of these guys are all that good.

Then why did Anthony get dog walked when he fought em?

Smith was so outgunned and had no answer he gamed the ridiculous unified rules and sat on has covering up as it was the safest spot to fight in.

Watching that fight shows how absurd the rules are and we see it in tons of fights but not gamed like that

I dislike Jones immensely, but he's not very beatable at all.
Even in his out of prime years he gives tough outings to pretty much anyone who stepped in there with him(I did think Reyes won tho).

Also I don't get his point about Jones not being good in certain skillsets according to his standard, it's MMA dude. Jones doesn't need to be an expert boxer to beat most of his opponents or even outstrike them, he's shown time and time again that in MMA he's one of the most well-rounded guys to ever compete.
I do agree that Jones boxing is probably one of the weaker areas of his game, but again that doesn't matter since this is MMA.
“But if you take his boxing, if Jon and I were to just box, I don’t think he’s the G.O.A.T. Like I think we have a very competitive striking match.”
Again, no one said he's a GOAT striker. People claim he's the GOAT for MMA and the LHW division because of his resume on how well-rounded he is.

I disagree.
“Wrestling, he probably wins that. But it’s not the individual skill set that he has, it’s the way he puts it together.”
I mean of course, however there's no point in wondering with these "what ifs?" in other combats sports competition since neither him or Jones compete in them. Jones and Smith are MMA fighters, that's where they both made they're careers so I don't understand thinking about these unlikely scenarios in these other sports.

I like Anthony, but with all due respect he can have some really odd takes when it comes to talking about other fighters in MMA(Ankalaev is another example).
