It's become the popular idea post Edson Barboza loss that Anthony Pettis should drop to 145. I think he can still be a top contender at 155 but I'm not at all opposed to a drop either, I think there are some very interesting fights for him at 145 and he could definitely challenge for the belt if he could string together 3 or so quality wins. I don't think they'd give him a top 5 opponent right away or anything coming off so many losses but a match with Korean Zombie would be perfect if you ask me.

Pettis is coming off of 3 straight losses and Korean Zombie is coming off of a title fight loss to Aldo as well as a long layoff due to mandatory military service. KZ recently revealed that he's very close to making a comeback. Stylistically, this is a great fight. Standing you gotta think Pettis has the advantage but both guys are incredibly aggressive on the ground and I could see KZ catching him in a sub.

What do you guys think of this potential matchup and who do you think takes it?

whats sad is that his weight drop has nothing to do with hard weight cutting or disadvantages, he's just going to an easier division basically

I agree 100 percent but as a mod you should know better than to make a separate thread about it. Anyways I hope KZ wins via superior grappling and submissions. KZ more creative on the ground.

Well, it sounds like fireworks at first, but a guy has lost 3 in a row, the other will have to fight over 24 months of ring rust. I'd rather have them fight ''easier'' opponents next so they get that win first, to get some direly needed confidence back.

Who do you want to see them fight?

Pettis should get a Mendes-McKenzie type of matchup... a completly gimme fight. Let him build that confidence.

Pettis needs a marginally ranked FW. But if he wishes to grind away at the viciously stacked LW division let him.

Ark, did he say he's dropping to FW? I think it's a toss up, because of ring rust and new weight class for both men.
Na, it's just the popular idea around Sherdog at the moment but I don't think Pettis himself has thrown out the idea.

KZ : Hacran Dias, Kawajiri on an Asian card
Pettis : loser of Barao vs Stephens

one of them could also fight the loser of Holloway vs Lamas. I woudnt mind if they got a lesser opponent either.

Man what a drop off for Pettis, Barboza looked like he improved an already formidable striking game, while Pettis looked tentative after he got clocked by that hard left near his eye.

I think those are some pretty good matchups too although if Stephens loses to Barao like I think he will I have zero interest in seeing Pettis/Stephens II.

Pettis vs Dariush
If he does drop to 145 Aloe Vera sounds fun
