"Lennox Lewis, former heavyweight champion says Anthony Joshua is not ready to face someone like Tyson Fury. He believes that he would need at least 3 or 4 more fights, and that David Haye would be a more suitable opponent in the meantime."

thoughts? I think Joshua could defeat Fury with ease

I think he is right. He may be more talented than Fury, but he has very limited experience right now. He should fight Stivirne and Haye first, like Lennox said, then he will have experience against some champion calibre guys.

You just don't want to waltz into the first huge fight of your career without even had big fights beforehand.

He should stay well clear of Haye, unless he beats some genuine top 10 heavyweights in the next year or so. The fight wouldn't make sense unless Haye put himself in a position as a top 5 Heavy.

I'd say the Fury fight is right for next year, a couple more defenses first then either Fury or Wilder.

Joshua is favored over Fury now . The fight isnt even possible until next year anyway so Lennox can theoretically break it down now ,it means nothing . If they do ever fight ,Joshua will spark him out i would assume within 8 rnds .

If AJ beats Fury and Wilder, he would become the biggest star in boxing.

I've always envisaged him losing one of those fights and winning the other, but regularly flip flop on which ones.

Fury used to mug him off in sparring, he might still be able to, best to wait a while.

Other way around.

Fury himself and a few others who were there said AJ put a beating on him, quite a while back as well.

A big money fight against a popular British former Cruiserweight is not such a bad option.

AJ is a big money fight against anyone, he is on British PPV and sells out arenas every fight, making upwards of 10m.

He is already insanely popular in the UK, beating David Haye would not be as valuable to his stock as a win over Wilder would be, or taking the titles from Fury. If he does both and becomes the lineal champion he would probably be the biggest star in the sport, from live gate to his walk away purse.

He doesn't need Haye to achieve any of that, and a loss to him would result in him losing the belt and being knocked down the pecking order. Haye is a huge banana skin and if AJ beats him, it would turn more heads, but it wouldn't put him any closer to being lineal champion.

Probably Tyson being humble, it was AJ who said Fury used to toy with him, think of the time frame, no way Joshua had his way with the champ at that stage.

^^ I totally agree with you about Haye. Haye needs to be avoided because he brings big risk for relatively moderate reward. Even if he loses vs. Fury or Wilder it wouldn't be the end of the world but a loss against Haye would be a serious set back. I happen to think that he could beat Wilder. Fury would be more tricky if he boxes like he did against Wlad as AJ isn't the fleetest of foot and Fury's footwork and general movement could create problems for him.

Tyson just tells it like it is and doesn't mind putting himself down, he described the exact combinations Joshua hit him with and others who watched the sparring said AJ beat him up. It's not exactly hard to imagine AJ putting a beat on Tyson in sparring.

AJ probably could if he had the right training

I wouldn't call someone daring you to knock them out a sparring match .Fury went around local gyms challenging anyone ,he ran into more than he could handle with Joshua who was still an amatuer and still won ,he will knock Fury out when they meet. I wouldn't be surprised if Peter stopped the fight and saved Fury from a k.o by pulling him out of the ring.

I wouldn't be shocked if Joshua beat Fury but I do agree it'd be a gamble putting him in with Fury at this stage.

Fury is just so awkward and gangly-limbed. He moves an awful lot for such a big fella too....

I think that Joshua is still a bit stiff when he fights. He needs more experience, but it must be against opponents that will build his ring IQ. Simply tossing cans at him until the gets a crack at a guy like Fury or Wilder won't prepare him for anything.
