A Saudi Arabian family therapist has released a video giving his advice on wife beating.

In the tutorial, Khaled Al-Saqaby says he is "aware that this issue is a thorny one, which contains many hazards".

He adds: "But Allah willing, we will cross this bridge safely."

Giving the main reasons a man may beat his wife, he says the first is arguments between the wife and her husband.

"Unfortunately, some wives want to live a life of equality with their husband," he says. "This is a very grave problem."

He also said a few things that, unfortunately, I've heard westerners say as well... such as when a wive provokes her husband into beating her.

Over the last several weeks, some ‘concerned’ readers sent sporadic emails to our intern staff about a column where we discussed the tendency of wives to get a bit loquacious at inappropriate moments, and how a good husband may go about politely handling a sassy woman.

I forwarded the following suggestion to the community:

“…sometimes in marriage the grave and solemn responsibility to politely tell the wife to be quiet and stay in her place falls upon every husband.

Being fickle and temperamental, women do not always respond to gentle words so at times a swift, backhanded slap across the face must be applied to them. This usually gets their attention and sets order straight.”

Now, I expressed the seriousness of such a situation and indicated that when cause arises, where a man must put an uppity feminist acting wife in her place, that the actions should be loving, kind and swift; much like the wrath of God when he warns you to stop sinning.

I wonder how many people here are sympathetic to this poor man's plight. Imagine having to live with someone who wants to be treated like a real person.

One of the rules I have for our household is that everyone must always have at least two copies of the Bible on their person. My wife naturally abides by this rule and has been faithful with ensuring our children do as well, even our girl off to California for her studies. I was pleased to see my girl had her own Bible with her when I told everyone to meet in the library study for family Bible discussion.

What shocked me, however, is that the Bible in her possession was not proper. It was one of those new versions that are trendy at youth groups in Santa Barbara, apparently. The scriptures had lost their fire and passion, they were watered down with flowerly language and liberalism.

Enraged, I immediately turned the natural gas of the fireplace and threw her facade Bible in it! I ordered her to her room and also chastised the wife for not ensuring our children at least home educated enough to know that anything other than the King James version of the word is dangerous to their fragile minds.

"Narrated Ikrima: 'Rifaa divorced his wife whereupon Abdur-Rahman married her. Aisha said that the lady came wearing a green veil and complained to her (Aisha) and showed her a green spot on her skin caused by beating. It was the habit of ladies to support each other, so when Allah's messenger came, Aisha said, "I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women. Look! Her skin is greener than her clothes! When Abdur-Rahman heard that his wife had gone to the prophet, he came with his two sons from another wife. She said, "By Allah! I have done no wrong to him, but he is impotent and is as useless to me as this," holding and showing the fringe of her garment. Abdur-Rahman said, "By Allah, O Allah's messenger! She has told a lie. I am very strong and can satisfy her, but she is disobedient and wants to go back to Rifaa." Allah's messenger said to her, "If that is your intention, then know that it is unlawful for you to remarry Rifaa unless Abdur-Rahman has had sexual intercourse with you."
