Another question, about Rampage vs Sakuraba back in Pride

You saw a lot of the same things in Karo Parisyan's fights too. Probably not a coincidence that he (Karo) trained out of Gene and Gokor's outfit.
Not a coincidence at all. It--the rolling Kimura/DWL--was also a specialty of Gene's mentor, Lou Thesz. And of course, Daisuke Nakamura, Kiyoshi Tamura's protege and Sakuraba's current training partner, is another example.

The amazing thing to me was that Rampage was less known at this time, so Saku did not get proper credit for this win. But Rampage went 9-1 in his next ten matches, losing only by DQ, with wins over Vovchanchyn, Bustamante, Liddell, and Randleman before finally losing to Wanderlei.

Rampage was a beast, this was an amazing win.

Absolutely. And he was a part of one of the most prominent teams in the world at the time--Team Punishment--and the main training partner of arguably the top light heavyweight in the world in Tito Ortiz.

The outside Kimura trip
The Kimura takedown where you hook the leg
Standing Kimura game
Securing a Kimura standing, rolling to the ground and finishing
it is cool to see that Kimura trip he used

...i.e., that thing that every catch guy from time out of mind does a lot of.
that's some old school catch-wrestling straight out of an early 20th century wrestling manual type of stuff.

TBF, I don't like the name 'Double Wrist Lock', it has too many syllables, and it isn't even a wrist lock (let alone a 'double' one).
While the name 'Kimura' easily rolls off the tongue, and even has the perfect badass and honibru 'origin story'.

Nevertheless....

I do wonder what Sakuraba called it at the time though.

The idea of 'lock' meaning 'joint attack' is ironically a modern confabulation; the etymology of the word simply meant a strong, solid hold that is hard to break, hence a 'lock'.

And so hence, a 'double wrist lock' means exactly that; you have a lock on his wrist, combined with a lock on your wrist, tying it all together. Double wrist lock.

Of course on top of all that besides, there are levels to the DWL, and when done by a guy who knows the tricks, there absolutely can in fact be pressure on the wrist, too; putting pressure on the rest of the joints in the arm being a wrinkle for weakening an opponent's ability to resist.

Yeah, I don't know man. Almost all the terms are self-explanatory. "Kimura trip"--Sakuraba secured a Kimura on Rampage, while hooking Quinton's leg with his outside leg, thus...tripping him as Jackson attempted to lift him. Thus...Kimura trip. Etc. Standing Kimura game...? What else could it be except...

....Kimura's secured while...

....standing...?

Ah, that makes sense. I can freely use it once more! (though there is the issue of it taking too long to say/shout... I preferred the term 'chicken wing' anyway, but unfortunately that refers to a confusingly large number of moves in wrestling)...

You didn't get it. Sigh. Never mind. :(
