I honestly would feel bad for his folks because I know the biggest reason he jumped almost straight to the pros is because of how strapped his family is for money.

The two big Ukrainians are probably my favorite guys fighting right now, even though Vitali, the older one, is retired at this point and currently a serving member of the Ukraine parliament.

Eek I for one Im not a fan of the Itagaki house hold the series would be fine with out them to be honest Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing Takamura face bigger opponents and have to really on his quickness I think he probably walks around 175 -190 so 168 and 175 would most likely be his most comfortable weight classes if he ever finally competes there then he would have to do some considerable story based bulking to be able to compete at Cruiserweight which is 175 - 200 and HW which is 200 and up

337 Byooshi - Ongoing - [B] - This slice-of-life series is sort of odd. A lot of it is pretty light comedy with some romance, but there's also an undercurrent that is very dark. As a freshman effort this series isn't too bad, but the author's later series are definitely better.
Blood Soul - Complete - [F] - Not my cup of tea. This is one of those series that is way too preoccupied with style. Think Tite Kubo turned up to 11. I'm not surprised it only last a single volume.
Gunka no Baltzar - Ongoing - [F] - There was certain aspects of the character art in this pseudo-historical piece that just really turned me off. They often looked crosseyed and there were sometimes where there were significant technical mistakes. The story and setting weren't interesting enough to overcome those issues for me.
Moteki - Ongoing - [A-] - Only one volume of this slice-of-life/romance series is out, but I quite enjoyed it. It's about a luckless loser who suddenly finds himeself in a "moteki" or a "period of increased popularity with the opposite sex" (no good direct english translation). It's an interesting way to look at the character and his story. I hope the rest of it gets translated, because I feel that this could be even better with more chapters to develop things.
Soil - Ongoing - [C] - The artwork of this horror/mystery series is really funky. It almost looks like something you'd see in a coloring book. I think I could get used to it if I needed to, but the story wasn't all that interesting. The basic setup is just really overused: town built on the remains of an ancient culture and weird stuff starts to happen.
Tokkyuu!! - Ongoing - [B+] - I enjoyed this rescue diver story. It's engaging and I want to see how the story grows. The series is complete but only a small part of it has been translated. The only reason I didn't give it an A- is because the main character's eyes are drawn really strangely. It was initially so off-putting that I almost dropped the series after a couple pages.
Wrong Soul - Ongoing - [F] - Couldn't even finish the first chapter the artwork was so bad. It was just extremely amateur to the point that I didn't care what the plot might be.

JBS have you read Chihayafuru? I'm watching the anime now and it's actually pretty good. Basically it's about competitive karuta.

I have not, but it sounds like it could be fun. The game was played in part of a chapter of 337 Byooshi that I read recently but it wasn't enough to pick up any of the rules. Does it ease you into learning the game if you aren't familiar with it? That was a problem I had when I tried to read 81 Diver; it sort of assumed you already knew shogi but I don't know any of the specifics other than it's a chess game.

I'm cursed once it comes to anime/manga. I always end up, in those series with a group at the forefront, that I end up liking secondary characters a lot.
