Angela Hill had a very weird introduction to the UFC, both very good and very bad. On the big break side, they let her into the TUF competition with almost no MMA experience: she had only one pro MMA fight and zero amateur MMA fights. Then they screwed her by setting her up to fight Carla Esparza right off the bat, who was Invicta FC champion and had 11 pro fights on her record at that point. This didn't happen by luck of the draw, nor by team captain choice, but rather by the way the tournament was designed. Would such a mismatch have been sanctioned if it had not been considered an "exhibition"?

After that, she was given an appropriate match up for her first official UFC fight, against Emily Kagan, which Hill won. But then they threw her to the sharks, her next 3 fights being Tecia Torres, Rose Namajunas, and Jessica Andrade. There was really not any effort to give her chance develop as a fighter in a sensible way.
