Andre Arlovski doesn't go for the flying knee. Does he beat Fedor?

Probably not. He was doing well boxing fedor, but he's a dumb fighter, so he would have screwed up sooner or later

Was this fight three rounds or 5 rounds? I dont recall. I doubt it would have gone the distance in any case

probably 5 now that you say it. I suppose Fedor won the Affliction belt over Big Timmy and was defending it against AA, right?

I came into this thread ready to vote for Arlovski due to my non existent ability to gauge whether a strike landed or not from a broadcasting angle, but seeing those GIFs made me reassess. I originally watched that fight thinking that Fedor was getting pieced up, but this doesn't seem the case anymore.

Also, damn, I completely understand all the Fedor stans not willing to let go. The man throws everything with such terrifying acceleration, he almost threw himself out of the ring trying to follow up with a hook on the descending corpse of Arlo.

He was beating him but he got a bit fancy and murder she wrote!

This assumes the flying knee was some kind of terrible misjudged mistake that left him wide open.

In reality I think its actually quite well timed, Fedor is bouncing off the ropes into him and the only reason he's able to counter is that he picks out the knee incredibly fast, his counter lands before Arlovski even gets in the air. Had Anderi got airborn it would have been very difficult for Fedor to counter him, he's have been too high.

He was landing marginally more before that but really still not very much and I think Fedor was clearly throwing the bigger shots, I don't think Arlovski could have hoped to go 5 rounds without Fedor landing on him so he needed to be throwing back his on potentially fight ending offence.

Tito Ortiz is a moron as well, you need to take that into account listening to the commentary.

Imagine if Fedor had landed the second punch on the way down? Fuck.

Yeah AA was dominating that fight. Made one little mistake and paid for it.

Nah. At that point in time, Fedor was starting to decline due to the buildup of knee and neck injuries, but he was still a step ahead of anyone else in a ring. He managed to negate everything that Arlovski was throwing, and had already started to figure out the timing.

The flying knee proved to be a huge mistake, but really only because Fedor saw everything that was coming. That version of Arlovski did look damned good though. Maybe his best ever.

I know it was a first round KO in mid air but AA was winning the fight before that stupid flying knee

If you watch it from different angles you see how Fedor works out Arlovskis timing and movement and the punches started not connecting at all. Regardless of the flying knee Fedor would have taken a little more time to read Arlovski and then put him down.

The fight really showed the difference between a great HW and well Fedor.

If only the loser hadn't done losing things, might he have not lost?

Maybe. Though looking at both track records as a fighter, I think a scenario where Fedor never, ever lands, and Arlovski never, ever gets his chin touched is a pretty far-fetched possibility.

Most likely. That knee was a gift.
