4) Fedor - Spent most of his career beating no name guys in luchador masks. A few noteworthy wins. An old school "aura" guy whose skills regressed sharply as time went on. Gets beat up by tubby middleweights. Recently had his face turned into mashed potatoes by this guy:

3) GSP - Best "winner" in UFC history. Just not the best fighter. Class act and great for the sport's image.

2) JBJ - Most physically talented fighter ever to step into the octagon. On course to be the greatest, but also a dumbass.

1) Anderson Silva - Most breathtaking talent in MMA history. Literally made us question conventional wisdom as he aged throughout his 30s and continued to improve. Real "growth mindset" kind of guy. A true love for all martial arts, always learning and incorporating new techniques. Faced tremendous adversity in his life and career. Actually fought in the UFC, and owns the most iconic KO and comeback win in the history of the organization (Vitor and Chael 1 respectively). At his best, dispatches any version of Fedor.

You forgot Sage Northcutt.

Always a pleasure to watch him fight. Can't help but feel that you're witnessing something special.

Anderson Silva is the GOAT

I've been saying it all this time (yes, I was a fan of the sport prior to making an account on sherdog).

Though don't dismiss Fedors career like that. He was the best HW in his time for sure.

Aldo is up there with the rest of these guys. Who you consider the GOAT comes down to your own personal biases as to which merits you value more. Anderson is my favorite as well.

I totally agree with the GSP assessment "best winner- not best fighter". I still think Silva is the goat although a lot of people here won't agree. I've never seen a fighter since with that aura of invincibility.

@JonesBones

No. Fedor fans are unique like right wing preachers who take every event and somehow spin it to make every GOAT candidate look bad besides Fedor. No other fan base is like that. It is like clockwork. It almost seems organized.

Ya ok only Fedor fans do that.

At least you managed to mostly not be a dick about all of the other greats. What's your take on the steroid issue? And since you trashed Fedor's resume, what do you think about the lower level of competition Sillva faced compared to Bones and GSP?

Yea, Anderson is really solidifying his GOAT status with all these losses. Keep going Andy!

Once his losing streak surpasses his win streak, it's a done deal. GOAT of GOATs.

Another steroid bust or two and I don't think anyone will ever touch him.

Lol
Goat after a one sided shameful loss

You forgot Sage Northcutt.

He's on his way, no doubt.
Aldo is up there with the rest of these guys. Who you consider the GOAT comes down to your own personal biases as to which merits you value more. Anderson is my favorite as well.

I was going to put him in there, but then the Conor kids come in trying to put his name in the conversation.

I agree TS, 10 title defenses with 6 TKOs and 2 submissions speaks for itself.

In terms of excitement, I would agree.

In terms of competition faced, I'd give a slight edge to GSP.

It's a close one between these 2 imho.

4th best is no joke. Although I think Aldo might be pushing for that.

TheRassler = GOAT

undefeated against shertards with a record of 10,096-0

I would agree. People last night just WANTED him to win. He has done some exciting fights in his time. Took this fight on a 2 day notice fighting the champ in a weight class above his. I can't help wondering what would have happened if if would have been a few years ago. If it were kept standing he would have won.

If Aldo manages to beat Conor and defeats him again in the trilogy then he would have made that statement and can make an argument for him being top 3.

I'd still rank Anderson above him tho.

Like Anderson did shit we've never before seen or since seen in the cage. It's not purely just about wins, but how he did it as well and the atmosphere.

I've never felt as excited for a fight as I did for whenever prime Anderson fought. You just never knew what to expect.

Flying knees, Elbows from the ground, upkick, you name it!

Yea, especially after his loss to McGregor. He's closing the gap on Fedor for sure.

Still a loooong way up to Anderson if Anderson can keep his losses going.

He's on his way, no doubt.

I was going to put him in there, but then the Conor kids come in trying to put his name in the conversation.
Well, every fighter on that list except for Jones got beat too. Doesn't put Weidman, Serra or Bigfoot in the GOAT conversation. Killing Jesse James doesn't make you Jesse James.
