There was been one or two threads praising MM for his awesome performances and celebrating the guy, but I figured that is honestly not enough since in a night filled with standout performances he had one of the two most impressive performances of the night and yet he has been ignored due to guys who got many times more attention despite not having fought as well as he did last night.
I think MM has got it all as far as an MMA fighter goes. He is making truly scary improvements in every fight and has been able to make these improvements after every single fight for the last several years straight in every aspect of MMA. I can only think of at most a tiny handful of fighters who have been able to for several fights improve that much after each and every single fight in every aspect of MMA. His speed is just horrifying, his ability to pick opponents apart from any position has probably given many of his opponents nightmares, he's among the best in the business when it comes to MMA wrestling and that is just when it comes to his fighting prowess. As I said before, the second Benavidez fight should have silenced any naysayers forever. Dominick Cruz is the only other MMA fighter to beat Benavidez ever. And while they both did it twice, Cruz won the rematch by using an elusive point fighting style and winning by the skin of his teeth. In MM's rematch, he went in there and banged it out with Benavidez; every other MMA fighter who has tried to do that has been on the receiving end of a highlight reel finish. MM said to hell with that and got a highlight reel finish of his own; no other fighter has come close to doing that. Then he outclassed a truly badass guy in Ali Baugatinov and made Carasio look like some local fighter working part time at a greasy spoon who was brought in off the street.
And then there is the fact that he has a genuinely likable, regular guy type personality and has shown the fighting prowess of Jones, Rousey, McGregor and others without having any of their grating, overly aggressive attitudes or need to maintain a psychotic image. And then, to top that off, he has been somehow able to train and prepare himself in such a way that he has stayed in fighting shape longer than any other UFC title holder thus far; he has fought at least twice a year and usually three times a year since 2007. He has yet to let down any of the fans who anticipate him defending his title or showing up to a major fight. He is the sole male champ that when the UFC says he is gonna fight, by God you know he is gonna show up to fucking fight.
So here is the official MM appreciation thread for anyone who is interested.
