They're the prototype/originators of the goth/metal chick with some dudes thing that's everywhere now.

If Evanescence ripped off anybody, it's symphonic metal bands like Nightwish. It wasn't Lacuna Coil.

it could be, but let me ask you this: how many popular bands have ugly chicks as lead singers? people know that sex sells, which is why you hardly ever see a band that has all guys as the instrumentalists with an ugly chick singing.

the fact that practically every band we know of that has all male instrumentalists, will 99% of the time have a hot female singer. if having a lead female singer was solely based on merit, you would think that a few ugly chicks would appear here and there. i can't think of one single popular band with this line-up type that has an ugly chick singing. i just think these guys realize that it's more important to have a hot chick as the singer who may not sing as well, than it is to have an uglier chick who can sing better, if they want to become a popular band.

I'm certain those bands are out there, they just aren't getting signed by major labels. The labels are making a business decision. That doesn't make the bands gimmicks.
