An American businessman is facing the threat of a lengthy jail sentence in Dubai because he smoked a joint of Marijuana days before he even arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). If found guilty, Peter Clark, 51, of Las Vagas, Nevada could face four years in prison after mere traces of the drug were found in a urine sample.

Clark says he smoked marijuana around three days before leaving his native Las Vegas for a business trip to the Persian Gulf. Cannabis was legalized for recreational use in Nevada in 2017 but Clark says he was aware of Dubai’s strict drugs laws and didn’t bring any drugs with him to the emirate.

Within a few hours of being in the city, Peter was taken seriously ill with pancreatitis. After being rushed to the hospital, medical staff took a urine sample that revealed the presence of marijuana.

In Dubai, medical staff must pass on the details of positive drug test results to the authorities. Just tiny traces of marijuana in someone’s body can count as ‘possession’ under Dubai’s strict drug laws and could attract a maximum sentence of four years behind bars.
Soon after the results of the test came back, police allegedly arrived at the hospital and shackled Peter to his bed. After receiving medical treatment, Peter was transferred to the notorious Al Barsha detention center where he was held for several days.
Peter’s passport has been taken off him and he is registered on a ‘no fly list’

These countries are free to be dicks.

we should just cut them off. No travel to or from

eh, that’s not very free either lol
Free...the place is built with slave labor if people were actually concerned with righting-wrongs, that is the reason they should be cut off and punished

He knew drugs was banned there but may not have known how the authorities treat drugs entering the body prior to arriving there.

I guess he should've done a bit more research then.

It is what it is. You go to a foreign land with some backwards ass society, you best crack the books and get your shit in order. Don't leave anything to chance. It's their land. You ain't in Kansas anymore.

nobody should support the slave trade built child prostitution center of the world in dubai anyway. dont go there and dont give them your money, its immoral.

To be fair the same can happen in Singapore. Consumption is up to 10 years, and airport authorities have the right to test you. Although it seems to be more enforced on locals than foreign travellers. Singaporean students always seemed to be shit scared of passive smoking weed.

It's Dubai. Slip a clerk a couple ingots under the table and watch the charges go away.

Maybe he shouldnt have gotten pancreatitis or had some khat like reflexes. Thought for a sec they piss tested every traveller.

The Dubai authorities deliberately are vague about enforcing rules. They intentionally turn a blind eye to many things so as to make the place attractive to foreigners, but when they feel like it they come down hard on some people.

Dubai follows shariah law, but a lot of people think they know better and downplay the risks. It's complete bullshit that they do this to him, but it's peak Dubai.

Not my place to tell them what to do. My only responsibility is not going anywhere near that fucked up environment. If you have to for some reason, you best not fuck around, and go in there as pure as can be. Daddy western government is not going to be able to save you.

At the end of the day, it's their land and their rules. When they try to infect the west with that shit, I'll gladly speak up. If it's their land though, that's that. We have no more right to force our customs on them, anymore than they have a right to force theirs on us. Just don't go there if you want to avoid these kinds of incidents.

You seem determined to defend shithole countries.
