Am I the only one that would be unprofessional and intentionally get DQ"d against a "smotherer"?

I thought this when Rick Story used to fight similarly and hold better fighters, such as Thiago Alves, against the cage for decision victories. Say you're Rafael Dos Anjos, what do you have to lose by nailing Covington in the balls in that 5th round and soccer punting him in the head for the DQ loss? You're already losing the decision in an extremely boring, frustrating fashion. Why not stick up for yourself and punish that style by getting DQ'd rather than losing the decision? Kind of like Ric Flairing in MMA; rather than take a clean loss, help your stock by doing something dirty. Most fans would remember you better that way than just being held against the cage the entire round.

I’d root for you in your next fight. That’s gangster as hell

Go watch frank shamrock Renzo Gracie strikeforce fight

Honestly, id be fine with it. This whole 'stay busy and smother' tactic is dull as shit.

But!

Dana will likely not enjoy it and may cut you just for that.

Your integrity
The integrity of the sport
The money in fines
Your ufc contract

I had it 2-2 going into the 5th. The judges actually got this decision right.

If I had zero respect for the person I'm fighting. I'd probably pull some dirty crap like that. I'd throw an illegal knee or two. Even a soccer kick. Those moves should be legal to help negate lay and pray. If soccer kicks and stomps were legal those lay n pray guys would think twice.

Dana would call you a goof though, and no fighter wants that.

Either people wouldn't agree to take fights with you, and/or you also get fired.
The UFC is not going to let guys intentionally DQ themselves and then stay on the roster

rather than go blatantly illegal, why not go borderline where you might get away with it and still win? you would also prob avoid consequences afterward by feigning innocence lol

maybe RDA could have used elbows more often (the way Browne stopped Barnett) when Colby kept him against the cage...but sprinkled in a few to the back of the head. They clearly bothered Colby, as he complained to the ref (who replied that they were legal).

we've seen plenty of fighters win while throwing a barrage of elbows and punches, some of which end up being illegal when we watch replays.

What a lay n pray borefest.

I'm done with fightmetrics. Yoel literally threw 2 strikes in the first rd and the metrics had him throwing like 30
I don't doubt that they get the numbers wrong, but it's a fair representation of the high pace fight with a lot of stand up trading we saw yesterday.
If instead of grappling both Colby and RDA would have stood still "gauging" distance or jumping in place like many fighters do sherdoggers would be calling this a WAR.

Why do you people watch MMA if you don't like grappling anyways??
You've got Boxing Kick boxing and muay thai if you're so aggravated by wrestling
