Lately, I've been thinking about how no game seems to hold my attention longer than a few hours.
Dark Souls 3, The Division, Street Fighter 5, Fallout 4.. I've got them all and they all seem so simple and repetitive. I'm 30 now and it seems like most games are just meant for kids with a lot of time to grind.

I used to spend HOURS on games like Ultima Online, Jedi Academy, and Street fighter. Now, I can't seem to spend longer than an hour for gaming. I don't know if its priorities or interest that's fading, but even VR shit doesn't interest me anymore. I've spent thousands on my rig/gear and all I do is try to max out graphically intensive games, then after that I'm bored with it.

Anyone on the same boat? Is it time to sell my shit and get a new hobby?

Every game is going to center around character and story progression. Developing a digital character, getting more abilities, more gear, etc etc. If that thing doesn't interest you it just sounds like your interests have changed. However I don't know how you can call DS3 repetitive. Every area has completely different enemies with totally different attack patterns. You're constantly having to adapt and change your fighting strategy.

Harder to find time as life gets in the way more when you get older.

I'm older than OP and still like those games. Obviously it is harder to make time for games but as I age the type of games I like are more complicated and grindey than before.

I still love playing video games but its all about timing. Like when I get out of work and everyone's asleep and there's nothing to do.

I can't plan a day around it though. If I worked a regular 9-5 job like most people, I probably wouldn't play video games anymore. But I work weird hours and there isn't much to do when I get home.

This. I play mostly when kids and wife are sleep or not home.

I do play with my boy though. We playing though The Last of Us now and he starting really like the dad in the story. The ending is gonna Crush him.

What I'm wondering is how a grown man has more than a few hours to dedicate to gaming in the first place. Don't you work? Don't you have social obligations?

I'm 30 as well and the most I can put into gaming is a couple hours a night. And that's without a wife and kids.

Getting bored with the games themselves is another story. Is it just games that can't hold your attention? Maybe its another issue. Maybe you have ADD.

From what your saying yea probably.

Maybe your like me though. I still like to play but it seems like its a lot longer wait between games coming out that Im actually interested in and that has me stalled out a bit.

Maybe play your old faves a bit and that will help you decide if you still enjoy it or if time has moved on

Thanks for the mention 'Ratman :)

I'm retired and I could spend a whole day gaming but I don't. I feel that I have to earn my gaming time. I'll get up, exercise, read my Bible, do my chores, clear emails and DVR, prepare lunch, THEN around 2pm I'll fell like.... "Yeah, that's enough."

Maybe I am getting too old... :(

I feel similarly, used to game hard, now I lose interest quickly. Modern games are mostly filler it seems, unlike older games that were "unbeatable". Find the time to get into a game that interests you, do some research and reinvigorate the gamer inside.

I have been scooping up PSP games, love the system and there are plenty of unique games to get into.

It's gone from a passion to something to escape for a few hours with. Same thing with music for me. Went from something I was majorly into to background noise when I drive or am at the gym. Most of my focus goes to the responsibilities of being an adult and when I have my own free time I don't have enough time or energy to focus on a passion.

It's sad your interest became more the graphics than the game itself. The sad life of the pc master race.

What you need is the Witcher 3

Although simple and repetitive does not describe DS3

Well Street Fighter is on its "fifth" iteration. Fallout its fourth. Souls technically it's fifth in 7 years. Division just seems boring to me period.

I think it's more to do with lack of much innovation in games the past 3 years. You probably just have burned out in franchises you used to love but nothing is there to take its place.

I'm in this boat completely. This actually happened to me at the end of the PS2 era. I was sick of everything. Then I played Oblivion, and in online gaming got big on consoles so I got sucked in. Now everything feels samey again. I barely play anything. VR gaming might get me back, we'll see. You're right though, you're just used to everything. So everything feels un-inspired. Most of it is.

It's great for kids who never got burned out, it's all new to them. But we've seen real quality. So it's harder to stay constantly interested. Greatness isn't released every year. Sometimes there are dry spells for us picky old fucks.

Lets get some beers and kill each other in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3! Or a death match in Duke Nukem 64!

Maybe you're an old skooler or just need some heads to enjoy the games.

It's true that I don't play video games anymore mostly because I don't have the time to commit to playing games these days but it's also that a lot of new games just don't seem to interest me in that they just seem to be recycled copycat versions of better games that came before it plus some arbitrary new features that usually will clutter gameplay than anything else but I'm sure there are certain exceptions out there as well.
