All things considered, I guess Khabib vs Holloway is a compelling fight...

Once I went through the Five Stages of Grief at the loss of Khabib/Tony, and arrive at acceptance, I guess Khabib vs Holloway is actually a pretty compelling fight.

A big part of that is how good Max is. In my opinion, he is better than even Aldo was at his prime, just from watching him fight and how good he is everywhere.

Another big part of me also still thinks this will be nothing more than a 5 round GnP mauling by Khabib. Not due to any definciency on Max's part, but rather how good Khabib is in that facet of the game.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Khabib vs Holloway is a fight I would have loved to see regardless.

This fight will also determine if Conor comes back.

If Holloway wins, I think Conor will fight him. Or we'll see Tony vs Max.

If Khabib wins, you'll never see Conor again

Khabib will maul him.

Too strong, and the best MMA wrestler in the game, from a higher weightclass.

Max taking the fight on a weeks notice, coming off an injury.

Huge props to Max for stepping up, but I don't see this one being competitive tbh.

Watching Max's budding legacy destroyed on 6 days notice isn't compelling in the least bit. Can't wait to see the endless sherbro memes of Khabib mauling Max every time Max successfully defends his 145 title from here on out.

Yeah, although I just can't see this ending any way except for a complete mauling by Tiramisu. Max is a beast but he's simply giving up too much size and strength here (size, not height).

Max tdd is grossly being under rated. People Kabob just takes him down at will n rags dolls him 5 rounds. We really dont know Kabobs cardio yet we do know Max can go for 5 rounds easy. Yes Kabob is a favorite just due to being bigger an Max is short notice. Max made Aldo look silly twice and had basically just toyed with every fighter he has fought since CMG. Mac had a better chance than Tony did imo

Holloway is injured

It's not a compelling fight. Holloway said last week that he won't be able to compete until Summer and maybe has to go through surgery in mid-April.
The booking is ludicrous and Max is crazy enough to accept the fight.

The only thing that makes me think Max has a chance is his control of distance striking.
If he could maintain a distance the entire fight, this could be a bull/matador situation.
Barboza tried and failed, but maybe Max could learn from that fight.

When has he fought an elite wrestler, ill wait...It's easy to have good cardio going at your own pace, take a look at Barboza, he look gassed after Khabib put a beating on his ass. This will not be competitive at all.

whether max loses or not, it won't effect his legacy or anything else...he's coming in on short notice a weight class up...while being injured...so he already has plenty of built in excuses if he loses...but imagine if he wins or makes it competitive....

I'd say this was the best possible replacement to make aside from Conor but damn Tony was the perfect matchup for Khabib IMO. I just don't see Max offering a lot off his back like Tony would when they eventually get taken to the ground. Also Tony has pretty good power where Max is more accumulation of strikes. I'm just telling myself this is the best possible option for a replacement and hope for a competitive fight. If Max gets smashed though there goes all the talk about him moving up eventually. Wiped away in a short notice fight against a horrible stylistic matchup.

No. That's the way you think it should be. If you haven't come to find in life that the way it should be is never reflected in the way it actual is, then you are either a child or a homeless person.

Even this fight still have 6 days till it starts. Maybe khabib pull out. I'm not even thinking about this event much for now

This is an awesome fight, too. It just isn't between the two best LWs on the planet like Tony vs Khabib was.

I think in truth taking this fight was really the only option Holloway had. He said it himself, paraphrasing, 'how many times in your life do you get an opportunity like this'? When he heard the offer he jumped in both feet first with nary a moment of delay.

Even if he were to rack up title defense after title defense and retire having never lost the belt (by taking the safe route and staying in his division), in the back of peoples minds there would be many that would simply be looking at featherweight as just an also-ran competition between a bunch of guys that got beat by McGregor. That's the miasma he (Conor) left by abandoning the belt after winning it without defenses; no sense of closure or understanding where the fighters truly stand in relation to each other.

Using this though, Holloway got a opportunity to make that shadow disappear like mist; if he were to beat Nurmagomedov, one of the most feared and highly rated fighters in any division in the UFC, a guy many people think McGregor himself would stand little chance against, as a guy who is moving up a weight class even, all of a sudden that would cast him (and all the guys he will cross paths with) in a radical new light; turning the page on the Conor chapter even the irishman never darkens a cage again (and it is a very real possibility to consider at this point that though McGregor likes to still be thought of as a fighter, he does not want to actually be a fighter anymore).

It never the less would however, make the possibility of drawing Conor into a rematch of that fight all those years ago exponentially more probable, which would still answer questions that people are still interested one way or another.

Fuck no. This is gay as hell

Holloway has always been Tony-lite anyway. This fight is NOT going his way and Ortega would have been a more interesting/competitive matchup and wouldnt tie another division up. We all know he will get ragdolled like nothing with khabib talking while GnPing.

I guess it depends on how the fight goes...but at the end of the day...win or lose, he's still the 145lb champion...did bj penn losing to gsp hurt penn's legacy at LW? answer is no....
