I have all the respect in the world for Werdum. He seemed like a very likable guy and his run to the title was nothing short of incredible. To basically being written off after his UFC release, this guy fought and beat some of the biggest names in the HW division. Having said that, I honestly thought Hunt could be beat him had it not been for the short notice and high altitude. And no, its not just because I'm a fan of Hunt. I never trusted Werdum's chin. If anything, he had improved at protecting it as much as sharpening his own skills. And the same thing could be said for Cain that had he not gassed in high altitude, he probably would've beaten Werdum. It does pain me to say that I don't think he'll get the belt back. Being 38 and in a division where heavier men hit hard, its not easy. Werdum will go down as an all-time great and I enjoyed seeing every minute of the ride back to the top. War WERDUUUUM!

He has never had a VERY good chin and i knew that it was going to be his downfall. His stand-up is alright but honestly not THAT good.
Many people overestimated him because of his charisma and the fact that the has beaten Fedor and Cain but in my opinion both of them are pure luck.

Fedor got caught and Cain had cardio issues bc of the altitude. He is a good fighter but he will never hold the belt again. Promise it on everything.

I agree with most of this except for the Fedor fight. Nobody told Fedor to jump in his guard. He played with fire and got burned.

Not his chin. Few guys can pull out a punch like that. He can get away with it with most guys in the division. It was a stupid thing to do but Cain isn't pulling out that quick punch and dropping him like that.

Well, you are entitled to your own opinion. I respect yours even tho i don't agree with it.
Cain fight was a fluke for sure

Cain looked terrible in that fight. Nothing like he did before. If he was able to hurt a dude with a much better chin than Werdum, he of course can do it than him.

He had a good run, but his time with the strap is over and like others here said i doubt he gets it back.

Werdum has always had a good chin. Don;t know why people are saying he doesn't.

Maybe his chin will suffer after this fight but he faced killers his entire career (Sergei, Arlovski, Alexs, Fedor, Bigfoot, Hunt, Gonzaga (when he was top 5) etc and he had only been put out by JDS

Also Werdum wasn't really released. He was supposed to get a title shot and signed a new contract. The UFC decided to give the shot to Brock instead so Werdum was given JDS. JDS KOed him (for the 1st time in his career) so the UFC tried to pay him less 9even though they just signed him to a new contract). He chose to leave and signed with Strikeforce for more money.

I never wrote him off. I even made a thread about how he had one of the best HW resumes before he fought Fedor and claimed that he would still beat most guys in the UFC (including Mir) Some people gave me crap about t but they were obviously wrong

He beat Cain up the whole fight (even in the 1st he did more damage)

That is not a fluke. A fluke is a quick KO by an unrranked fighter like Serra vs GSP

Meh. People always claim fighters are "not that good" standing up/at bjj/wrestling/whatever after they lose. And similarly, that their chins are weak when they get ko'ed. Taking a flush hit that you don't see coming while walking forward against a 240 pound guys is going to get you knocked out no matter who you are. It wasn't his standup that got him ko'ed, it was over confidence or over excitement.

Did Werdum look out of shape to you guys? he seemed to not be as great of shape as usual...

Agreed, except he wasn't walking forward. He was running forward. He just kept running at him for a long time chasing him.

He was a little ahead in the exchanges and then he ran at him and got nailed and starggered but he also landed a punch. Stipe lost his footing against the cage a little and Werdum ran at him again and chased him for way too long and got nailed. It was really dumb for such a smart fighter.

I don;t know if he chased him wrecklessly like that because he got nailed and wanted to get the strike back or because Stipe stumbled against the cage a little. Either way...really bad move. Stipe is a tough matchup for him and he should have continued to be patient.

I'm not even bothered to argue with you about this subject again.

You may think so but i don't give a shit. If Werdum is so good how come he lost so easily and looked like an amateur :D

If youreverything gonna chase a 240 pound man around who knows how to punch, and do so with your chin out and exposed....you will get dropped.. simple as that.

Yeah, looked to me like he lost his head. Maybe he thought Stipe was hurt a little bit from the way he leaned against the cage, maybe he was himself buzzed from the first counterpunch Stipe landed or some combination of the two. He wasn't as composed as he was against Cain and I have to think the 45.000 Brazilian fans present had something to do with that. Too bad: I really like him both as a fighter and a man, but at 38 it'll be hard for him to get another shot.

Not sure why every time a guy gets KO'd it's "there goes his chin! he doesn't have a good chin" Werdum got caught flush on the chin while rushing forward. You can have an iron chin, and you get hit flush like that (especially by a HW), you're going to sleep. It's like Aldo, he got hit flush while lunging forward. Good night.
Yes, Werdum looked a little softer than usual to me as well. But overall, he looked like he was caught up in the excitement of the event, and was not focused.
Also, I think Bones with enough time to train and bulk up a little, stands a good chance against anyone in HW. Would love to see him do a superfight at HW.

If Cain is so good then why did Werdum do more damage in the 1st round. Blow him away in the 2nd round, and then finish him in the 3rd after forcing Cain to panic wrestle. (Of course Cain is good...I am just using your idiotic words against you)

How did Werdum beat Fedor, Cain, Overeem, Nog, Gonzaga twice, Alexs, Big Cat Erikson, Bigfoot, Hunt, Browne etc if he wasn't any good?

Do you realize that he has one of the best resumes in HW history and has only lost to top guys? (Loss by decision = Nog (1-1 against) Overeem (1-1 against), Sergei, Arovski) Losses by stoppage = JDS and Stipe)

Werdum got wreckless and Stipe put him out. It is as simple as that. It was a competitive fight until Werdum chased him. Anyway...before the fight I said Stipe is the toughest matchup for Werdum at HW. I still beleive that obviously.

A top HW beat another top HW. It happens. I would favor Stipe in the rematch too but it doesn't mean that Werdum couldn't win
