I could buy TDK at #1 because I love the film, but no way is T2 better than ESB. The original release of ESB was a celestial event. Many film tropes overused today were pioneered in ESB.

T2 is just polished better, has more action and better directing. It was also influential in special effects use.

I prefer T1 to T2 by the way, but T2 and ESB are neck and neck for me

I'm saying Aliens because ROTJ is my favorite Star Wars sequel, however, TESB is up there for best sequel of all time. Aliens goes into a new genre and is really fun and rewatchable but I wouldn't say it's better than Alien, TESB is almost objectively better than ANH and is a perfect sequel.

All that to say:

Objectively; TESB

Preferentially; Aliens

That is my opinion too. I love Aliens much more, but it wasn’t as huge of a leap over the original like Empire was, and even that is up to debate depending on preferred genre.

Gotta go with aliens. Empire is classic but aliens compared to the original just crushes it. The pacing, no false steps, it's kinetic, action scenes still hold up. Aliens might be the Pinnacle of film science fiction. There's no weak points or characters, everyone is acting by their motives, then go through a 3 stage story structure no real twists or aas pulls empire has some weaknesses, like the emperor with know who luke was just by his last name, everyone would have a good idea, yeah this is Anakin Skywalker son from the clone wars.
