Television ALIEN: EARTH (Renewed for Season 2)

If you have finished season one of ALIEN: EARTH, how would you rate it?

I get that the show is trying to expand the lore and focus on the corporate side of things with Weyland-Yutani and Prodigy, and the whole "synthetic human" angle is interesting. But honestly, the first episode was so heavy on the corporate espionage and the Prodigy backstory that it felt like the Xenomorph was an afterthought.

The crash scene and the few brief glimpses were cool, but for a show called Alien, I was hoping for more tension and a quicker build-up of dread. It feels like they're saving the good stuff for later, which is fine, but as a pilot, it didn't quite grab me in the way a good Alien story should. Am I alone here?

I get what you are saying, but I liked the focus on world building. I liked that there were other lifeforms too. I like the idea of the different non- and semi-human characters too.

I only watched the first episode, watching the second tonight.

I think there is a lot of potential here.
 
This once again looks like tiktok v Aliens. They keep casting a bunch of kids rather than convincing actors who look the part. They did the same thing with Romulus. I know it seems illegal to have a male protagonist in the Alien world, but it would be a nice change. At least cast a chick that looks like a bad ass rather than a tiktoker with a bowl cut.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw Grace Randolph's comments. On par with the first Alien movies apparently lol. I never understood how she is so popular, I literally can't get past her thumbnails and those retarded faces she makes. Actually I can sort of understand how she became popular in todays culture.

I dont know why, but I get Linda Cardellini vibes from her. I guess she just kinda looks like her circa Freaks and Geeks.

The haircut is atrocious.
 
First two episodes were solid, it's entertaining. Writing isn't terribly complex but it's serviceable, the performances in the acting vary. Looking forward to the next episode
 
Just about to watch it but I've only seen 1, 2 and 3. Do I have to watch the others to watch this?

Just watched the first two episodes.

Great production. But overall just kind of meh. The dialogue isn’t compelling in any way. It’s predictable.

I’ll continue trying to watch it, but I just don’t like it all that much.

That said, I’m not a huge Alien fan. While I loved Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Alien Romulus, just as stand-alone movies, I can skip all the other movies, and am not really invested in the whole Alien universe.

Also, if it took them 4 months to go 800 million miles, how the fuck would they even get to Proxima Centauri in under 10,000 years, let alone “the farthest reaches of the universe?”
 
My only gripe is that the aliens look a little plasticky.

So when are the Predators arriving???

I get what you mean. The first opening shots drew me in because it was really reminiscent of the first Alien. The atmosphere, the retro tech, and style of the characters. But after that it moved a bit too fast without the tension building. I'm hoping it actually slows down a bit and focuses more on the xenos after they're done with dumping exposition. I do like they introduced new creatures. I'm interested in what they're going to do and fit in with the classic xenos.

I also agree with whoever said the script is serviceable. It's not terrible but it's not great either. Some actors can make it work but some can't. Some of the lines are delivered with no weight or feeling. I think the lack of experience of the younger actors really show in some scenes.

Also, is it an unwritten rule that every Alien story has to have a female protagonist? It's not really a complaint but it's like they keep trying to copy Sigourney Weaver. I guess this time it's a bit new since the protagonist isn't really human.

Overall I liked the first episode and going to continue watching. It's way better than Chief of War which also got good reviews from critics.

Throughout the alien franchise they always made the synths a bit stronger than humans, but nothing crazy. Now they made them super human so I wonder if we're going to see a xeno fight a synth fight hand to hand. I kind of hope not because it looks goofy in my head.

Yeah, so do I. But some of my favorite series start off slow because they’re laying the necessary foundation. Or maybe the writers just didn’t hit their stride until they got a few episodes under their belt.

So I’m going to give the show a few more episodes even though I didn’t particularly like it all that much.
