Hiding it won't work in 2017 when everyone knows what it looks like and simply it's presence was enough to scare you. They can't do that anymore. Practical effects were and always will be limited. With CGI there is no limit, but the trade off is you know there isn't anything there. It's less to do with how it looks and more to do with just your brain recognizing it. Tarkin in Rogue One looked phenomenal. But you know the dude is dead and it's CGI.

I get what you're saying and all. But if I were directing this, I'd want to realize that what you said about cgi making you realize nothing is there, is exactly what I DON'T want in a horror movie. You can't get scared of something that your brain immediately recognizes is not there. And yeah, cgi allows for free movement, but how much of the aliens do we really need to see for it to be effective? We sure don't need to see it in broad daylight on top of a ship. Just my opinion, anyway.

Man, I thought sci-fi fans are supposed to be the smart ones..... turns out they're just a bunch of Transformers fans who can't piece anything together without being told what everything means.

Though I like Hudson way more than any other character in aliens (except Ripley) he's silly and over the top as fuck.

I'll be happy if the Xenomorph chomps on McBride first.

I want to watch this trailer, but considering the first one already showed how 2/3 died does this show any more deaths or reveals to much of story?

Put it this way. The Thing is regarded as one of the best horror movies of all time and a shining example of practical effects, right? And deservedly so. Bottins work is legendary.

However, the climax of the movie is the thing being shown through the process of animation. Not even CGI, but literally a cartoon. Does that mean The Thing is a terrible movie with awful effects? Why did Carpenter choose to use that method when he had practical effects available with the talent of a renowned genius in the field?

The answer is because he felt that was the best method to convey the story being told.

I'm sure there are going to be some great practical effects in the movie. Prometheus had lots of them. But if people complain so much about cgi in movies why isn't the thing and it's terrible animation lambasted just as much?

It's because the thing is a great movie. Even with its terrible, shitty animation. If people dont let effects as awful as that ruin a movie, CGI should be easy to accept in comparison.

i hope they go into the story of the engineers more so than the last movie. aliens are cool and all but the last movie left too many unanswered questions. elizabeth shaw and david went to go find out what happened to the creators, so i hope this movie picks up where they left off and answer who they were, why they wanted to destroy earth, and why create the aliens?

really sad I watched that trailer...jesus christ. I loved it when movies were still a surprise even if you watched all the trailers.

I would have preferred Bill Burr, bit who knows.

Don't let your distaste of an actor ruin an entire movie in a legendary franchise.

And, for example, I HATE Leonardo DeCaprio with a passion. But I can't deny he's a great actor in many great movies.

Why the heck is James Franco even in the film?

From the trailer it looks like the same old stuff with different cast and surrounding:

Bunch of humans exploring a remote/new planet come across the Black goo and Xenomorphs , which then proceeds to take out the humans 1 by 1 until a few humans escape . The End.

-----

Start is soo cliched: group of enthusiastic happy humans all gather round and wonder about their expedition or holiday but ominous future is foretold with the music , eerily idylic scenery and just knowing this movie is about killer Aliens. Reminds me of the storyline to FarCry 3, same thing more or less.

So, essentially a remake of the '79 original with a little more background on the Engineers?

Eh... I'll wait for it to come out on Netflix or Hulu.

Franco will sell weed to the xenomorph than the xeno will go weigh it out and it will be short .2

Xeno gets mad and kills him

Don't joke. I've seen the concept art for the Rogenmorph.
