the ambiance is all wrong. It's weird to me seeing a xenomorph in broad daylight like that. Aliens movies are suppose to be super dark which helps conceal the alien adding to the suspense.
 
this trailer has made me aroused looks like a good year for me with films.

Just the outside scenes with the xenomorph or the whole thing ?cos most of it seems dark and like an alien film to me
 
2:20 DAMN! those were some head-butts that would made Coleman proud.
 
I liked it -- dont even mind the spoilers as im not expecting an intricate storyline, just Prometheus with less convolutions and more action with xenomorphs.

I did notice they didnt really show a lot Walter (David / Fassbender ) on the planet, which is interesting.
 
cant wait to see the same alien movie repeated again, wonder whats gonna happen

Unfortunately yeah, even though Prometheus was one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen, I'm probably gonna watch this.

Oh and another thing Aliens did well that I don't see this new movie doing is use of dark lighting to show the aliens. In this preview, we see an alien on top of a spaceship in broad daylight. That's just not a good decision imo.

I guess I just wish that in the years since 86 and all the cgi innovations in that time, that somebody had spent time developing innovations for practical effects and suits and animatronics, etc. CGI works really well for metal images. Like Transformers or Pacific Rim. Those things look real with cgi. But cgi isn't to a point where creatures look real enough yet.

I think "better" is somewhat relative, since you're doing far less. CGI is far better than practical effects at what it does best, which is allowing free movement and interaction. Hiding it won't work in 2017 when everyone knows what it looks like and simply it's presence was enough to scare you. They can't do that anymore. Practical effects were and always will be limited. With CGI there is no limit, but the trade off is you know there isn't anything there. It's less to do with how it looks and more to do with just your brain recognizing it. Tarkin in Rogue One looked phenomenal. But you know the dude is dead and it's CGI.

Even Ridley Scott in 2017 can't just use the same techniques he did 40 years ago to the same effect. More than that, he probably has no desire to just do the same thing over again.
 
I'm beginning to worry about my eyes for real. I watched the trailer and liked it, thought the xenomorph looked fine. I guess I can't pick up cgi like other people can.
 
I just watched the last scene of Alien (1979) and it appears I was correct. I don't know what you old farts are talking about, but the man in suit is just too slow to be intimidating. The scene with the xenomorph flopping on the side of the spaceship is laughable at the end of the original Alien.

I swear people who hate on CGI have simply not watched the older films in a really really long time. There are some truly dated scenes.
 
So, what is the deal with the Xeno in this movie? Saw the classic version, then the smaller ones.. Also, wondering what the deal with the spores are from the beginning.
 
For some reason, I'm not that excited for this. I hope I'm proven wrong.

I'm not sure if you saw Prometheus but,

I'm guessing we have Alien's birthed from Humans , Engineers and a hybrid Alien resulting from Human and Alien Spores. The spores, i'm assuming, are plants that have been affected by the black goo from Prometheus and are similar to what a face hugger does when in contact with a host.

The large Alien from Engineer, regular from human, small from spores/human.
 
It looks ok but it's definitely a soft reboot, like everything else these days. I liked Prometheus so going back to the same formula is disappointing. Ridley is still the man so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
 
If it ends up being good, I will just have this replace Promethus in my mind.

It's a contemporary version of our parents grumbling about the price of sneakers or video games. "Things were better when I was younger".

It's not even that the cgi looks that bad or that the practical effects looked that great. Try to tell an 80's kid that the dog scene in The Thing doesn't hold up that well and you've made an enemy for life. It's just a different method for a very different effect. They both have their positive and negative features. From the first preview you can clearly see that practical effects will be used and in all likelihood Scott will utilize them whenever possible just like he did i. Prometheus.. But there are simply things that practical effects cannot do and that's when cgi comes in.
