Alexander Volkov vs. Attila Vegh Heavyweight Title Bout Set for M-1 Challenge 68 (06/16/2016)

Former Bellator MMA light heavyweight king Attila Vegh will move up a division and challenge M-1 Global heavyweight ruler Alexander Volkov for his belt at M-1 Challenge 68 on June 16.

The promotion announced the matchup on Tuesday. M-1 Challenge 68 takes place at Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, and is headlined by the M-1 middleweight grand prix final between Alexander Shlemenko and Ramazan Emeev.

Volkov, a former Bellator heavyweight champ, captured the M-1 Global title with a third-round triangle choke submission of Denis Smoldarev at M-1 Challenge 64 on Feb. 19. The 27-year-old Moscow native had previously dropped back-to-back fights to Cheick Kongo and Tony Johnson under the Bellator MMA banner.

Vegh enters the bout on a two-fight skid after dropping the Bellator 205-pound title to Emanuel Newton via split decision in March 2014 before losing another split verdict to Goran Reljic at KSW 31 last May. Prior to that, the 30-year-old Slovakian had won nine straight fights.

Strange matchup. I got Volkov by decision, I think Vegh is tough enough to make it to the end.

Pretty good fight. Vegh kind of disappeared for a while.

Although I'm glad to see Vegh again, it is really odd to see a LHW on a two-fight losing streak get a title shot at Heavyweight. Especially against a good fighter like Alexander Volkov.

Vegh should be fighting at LHW against Nemkov, why the hell is he going to HW?

I don't think that's a good idea or Vegh to move up. Volkov will destroy him.

I agree, but what are they gonna do? Volkov vs. Kenny Garner? Followed by a rematch no matter what like all of Garner's M1 opponents lol?

M1 seems to have a lot less to work with these days.

Also doubt you remember, but when I first joined this forum and was a new MMA fan, I think it was you that sent me a bunch of fights to watch lol what's up man.

"Sent you a bunch of fights to watch"?

Nah, pretty sure I've never done anything like that. :D

what's up man

Currently bed-ridden due to bad pizza.

Really looking forward to this fight, but like most of you guys, I wish Vegh would stay at LHW.

I only root for Vegh because of his badass name. Attila.

Wow that is a pretty badass fight not gonna lie looking forward to it

Both good fighters but Volkov should win by size.
