Media Alexander Volkov FURIOUS at judge Adailaide Byrd: "Maybe she preferred Ciryl's body more"

Why did she score the fight for Gane?

To be fair Gane looked just as disgusted as anyone else. Winning when you, and everybody else, know that it isn’t deserved, is a terrible feeling, and I doubt the win bonus money compensates that (although Gane is probably paid quite comfortably now)

Not sure why we are piling on Byrd , MMA judging is often terrible and she wasn't alone in scoring it wrong.

Given her history of incompetence or corruption with questionable score cards, there is a reason people are piling on her. She scored the first Canelo vs. GGG fight for Canelo, which was a disgrace.

There have been other scores she has handed out in UFC fights over the years, that were mindboggling. I no longer think it is incompetence, but mainly corruption on her part. Not sure why the Commission in Nevada is hesitant on removing her as a judge, given her disgraceful history of judging in both MMA and Boxing.

Speaking of judges: are there no videos, podcasts or fight-companions where you can listen to a former judge scores some fights?
I've looked around but can't even find any such things on Big Johns podcast - just general talk on "why it's so hard to score fights"

I'd love to listen to how an actual judge thinks minute by minute through a close round

Let's not let Junichiro Kamijo off the hook either.

They should be required to attend press conferences or have a public Dean Blandino booth guy that they can cut to in order to explain controversial decisions.

Also - open scoring please.
As someone who hates (although it’s not “that” serious; you know?) the 10 point must scoring system for 3 and 5 round fights, one of Chael Sonnen’s takes that I like is that judges and refs need to be able to justify their scoring and ref’s calls (what a terribly worded “sentence.”)

All that said, I was under the impression that this was supposed to be a #1 contender bout; so IMO should be 5 rounds.

Byrd has been a plague on MMA judging. Haven't heard her name in a while, which was nice. But this isn't surprising at all.

I voted corruption because when you already know that fighter A is gonna win by decision no matter what that speaks corruption, I did the same thing when Jones fought Gus the first time I knew the favorite would get the nod and that's how UFC works if a fight goes the distance the fan favorite gets the decision every time, what Volkov needs to do unfortunately is leave UFC for PFL to fight Ngannou and do it fast before Ngannou is done so at lest he can beat a UFC champ and leave UFC on a controversial decision will make him look much better.

If he stays in UFC he can kiss his fighting career good bye, he will turn into Gus 2.0 and start losing, believe it or not when a fighter gets burned in these big fights it affects future performances, I've seen this happen to Gus after the Jones robbery also to Pedro Rizzo after getting screwed against Randy and the common denominator is they all stuck around UFC don't do it, it's obvious the company doesn't have use for you other than you being a stepping stone for their guy who is coming up.

Jacked chad getting the edge over a lanklet, tale as old as time.

How the hell is she allowed to judge anymore? I remember her ruining the GGG Canelo fight and other since. It can't be that hard to find another judge right?

She's one of the most incompetent judges in MMA.

Ciryl Gane stock is all time low at this point, before the Francis fight he looked like the next HW new breed now guy is taken seriously by no one

I love Drago, but if he hadn't got stuck in that gilly to end round 1 he probably would have won a pretty comfortable 2-1 on the cards.

I still think he won, but it was close enough that it could have gone to Gane.

And everyone's shitting on Byrd, who is pretty bad at judging, but Kamijo was judging too. He's decent enough and he scored it for Gane as well.

Fixed fight? they want to make Gane look like a world-beater, all so they can hype up Jon even more
Jon is the greatest athlete in the history you know, the Lebron James

Tested positive for steroids 3 times, 35 eye-pokes and fought only old MWs, lose to Reyes, ducked everyone is hard to forget tho

She’s married to Robert Byrd…

Really hope they treat this as a win for Volkov, as in, give him what he would have got with a win.

Like they did for Aldo when he lost to Moraes
I'm still on the train that the Moraes win was pretty clear, and I believe that you have to treat wins like wins, no matter the fuckup that caused them.

BUT, with the HW division as messed up as it is right now, I could easily see them making this complicated so that Gane has to fight Blaydes in the meantime, but if Jones-Tom doesn't get done and suddenly Tom needs a fight getting promoted from interim to undisputed, Volkov steps right in. Gane might be "above" technically, but I think Volkov shouldn't be dropping anywhere
