Would be a great fight for Toronto, if indeed they do go there. Probably throw the vacant W-135 belt in the co-main though

Agreed. No matter though new matchup for Volk and a fun fight for us! Please no Volk vs Holloway 4 again... or ever!

If he wins this one let him challenge Islam again or take a shot at Charles. First fight at 155 was so close he's earned it.
haha agreed Volk vs Holloway has been done to death at this point, we need some fresh new matchups. It will get boring real quick. The amount of UFC title rematches these days is absurd. Have you noticed that every other UFC title fight is a rematch these days? its beyond ridiculous now.

Volk vs Topuria is the best fight that can be made right now. I picked Holloway to beat Aldo both times, Volk to beat Holloway all 3 times, and now Topuria to beat Volk but neither outcome would surprise me.
Im a huge Volk fan and supporter, but if Oddsmakers heavily favor volk, I will be betting on Topuria as an underdog.

At equal odds, I'd take Volk as I expect him to win. However Topuria has all the intangibles to make it interesting. Age and speed should be on his side.

Hard fight to predict. Topuria is a stronggg FW and wont be dragged to the floor as easily as Yair. He also has a tight boxing game both defensively and offensively with big natural ko power.

I think Volk goes for a GSP-esque approach here. Legkicks, darting in and out, scoring points trying to bait Topuria into openings, and capitalizing on those openings with big overhands/hooks or takedowns.
Volk will need a clean performance here. Topuria isnt the type of guy you can afford to make a lot of mistakes against.

Not sure how well Topurias power carries over in the later rounds. If hes one of those guys whos power is present every second of the fight even in the later rounds even when gassed, I think this might Volks toughest fight yet.

I just wanted to say, as I find it interesting, if Volk beats Topuria in January he will be the first person to ever win a title fight in UFC history below 170lbs that's 35 years of age or older and it'd only be like the 3rd time ever at Welterweight and below.

I know Cejudo lost to add to the number, I believe it's currently 2-29 for guys 35 and older, Colby will be the next man to test this statistic at 35 years old when he faces Leon.
Is this BELOW 170 or at WW and lower? Colby is fighting at WW. I guess he could weigh in at 169 lbs and be BELOW 170.

I read return as retire and got worried for a second.

If Islam beats Charles, let Alex beat up islam again. If Charles beats Islam let Alex have a fresh shot at charles.
Yeah, he hospitalized Islam last time so this time it might be death by fantasy! Good thoughts.

Excited to see how it plays out given how elite Volk is and Topuria looking like a world-beater while still undefeated.

Ilia topuria vs volk
And co main merab vs sean

Two georgian champs in one night

UFC cover curse has been undefeated this year...

When I watch both fight, Volk still seems like the faster guy to me. I think Volk's speed will be a problem for Topuria, but one I feel Topuria can find an answer to. Hopefully we find out in January.

The judges never get it wrong

That fight was a clear 49-46 for Islam.

Yeah. He did an interview during that Sydney card and said he wanted to fight in december, but the UFC's scheduling already had other title fights in mind for the rest of the year, so they're making him wait until next year.
I remember him saying he wanted to get 4 fights in 2023 under the UFC 284 fightweek. Imagine if he managed to do that even with the Islam loss that would have been an unreal year. Up there with the best.

Volk headling in Toronto possibly? He's trying to become an honorary Canadian like Max Holloway, he's taking everything Max worked for!
