News Alexander Gustafsson vs Ben Rothwell is confirmed on May 21

I hope Gus does well. I use to be a Jon fan, but I always respected Gus' hustle at LHW. His last showing against Jon wasn't great and it looked like he gave up against Lionheart. He also got worked by Werdum at HW. Man it's a shame because in his prime, barring his devastating loss to Johnson, the man was a 'g. He had legendary battles with Jon and DC, grapple fucked Jan, and embarrassed Glover. He fell off so quickly. He also took too much time off... That may have hurt him more than anything. It seems he doesn't take losses very well or something.

Fucking yawn.

It's nuts to think that I actually favor Rothwell in this fight after seeing what potential Gustafsson had. Him beating Jones in that first fight is one of the biggest "what-ifs" in mma history. It would have changed the entire landscape of MMA and both fighters lives.

RIP gus.

Rooting for Gus of course.

Big Ben looked horrible in his last fight . Slower than ever. Can’t say Alex looked like a world beater either tho. If it keeps standing I can see Alex moving efficiently and get the W

Have also in mind that we never know whether Ben has some old injuries, eventually the older you get the more injuries you will have during your sport career. Unless your name is Cheick Kongo.

Gustafson by tko. Screencap this.

who has rothwell fought that has hands and grappling comparable to Gustafson? Ok you remember those fighters now and he lost to all of them.

Alexander looked like the best LHW alive but came up short- twice

No shame in losing to Fabricio but at this time he's so inactive and his HW move he looks a little put of shape. Common knowledge is that Rothwell will be too much for him. Rothwell is as natural of a HW as they come. His longevity and consistency is incredible

Thought Alex was going back to LHW, not sure what to make of this, he could very well lose to Ben. And if unmotivated Alex shows up again, I sincerely hope he retires for good.

Is he still getting tattoos of his wins/losses

Most random fight in UFC history.

Gus has looked terrible in recent fights, and has even admitted that his heart isn't in it anymore (which is why he "retired" in 2019). At the same time, Rothwell is 40 years old with a million miles on his body and hasn't looked great in recent years either. It's hard to say. A focused, motivated Gus should be able to use his huge speed advantage and outstrike Rothwell on the outside to a decision W. However Rothwell obviously has a big size and grappling advantage and if he gets Gus down it could be over quickly. So basically... who knows!

I agree with all that. Put a gun to my head and I'll say Ben wins in a fight similar to his fight with Brandon Vera. In that fight, Vera was easily outstriking him with superior speed/technique...then Ben got possessed and started swinging until he landed. Ben could also win via guillotine...he has some nasty ones and submitted both Barnett bros (Josh and Chris) with them...the only submission losses either fighter has ever had.

If Gun wins, it will probably be a relatively boring decision where he outpoints Ben on the feet.
