I'm a huge fucking Gusto fan.
Been following him for five years. Admittedly,
I lost a significant amount of interest once
bandwagoners started trying to justify
claiming that he was clearly going to or
clearly did beat Jones... it was a close fight.
In fact, upon the announcement of the first
fight with Jones, I thought that Gusto was
still too green. I was happy to be proven
wrong, though.
Ultimately I feel like he is a very good fighter.
A step behind great. But he is very good.
He is also still young, and despite the miles
he must have on his head, his body is still
nimble and athletic and he can focus on the
right things, progress his style, evolve his
defense and learn to use his tools properly.
I think it's more of an issue of gameplanning
for Gusto. I think his nerves might get to him
a bit more than a lot of fighters too. Hard to
pin point it. But to answer your OP, I'd say it's
a bit of both depending on who you talk to.
Both are unfortunate, because Gusto can stand
as a very good fighter all on his own. Nothing
wrong with not being a "great." But he still has
the potential.
