of course. 1 guy is a pull out merchant who has a lot of hoops to jump through just to fight him once, the other guy fights often and never pulls out. who would you rather fight? waste your prime waiting for 1 rd neckbeard who has no titles or face the guy everyone is touting as the top draw in UFC who has already won 2 belts?

If he can stuff Ankalaev's takedowns, I'd rather see him bulk up and fight the winner of Aspinall/Gane before it's too late. He'll be 40 in a couple of years.

Ehh DDP through no fault of his own is in a Leon situation. Has fought the guy he won a belt against 2x and defended against someone who probably didn't earn a shot and is almost retired (Izzy). 3-0 in title fights but I'd say it's similar to Leon beating Usman 2x and Colby. Just like Leon had multiple real contenders in his division (Belal, Shavkat, Garry), DDP has (Khamzat, Caio, Imavov).

It's a real shame we're talking about this fight. Sure DDP is way more exciting than Leon was, but the UFC matchmaking has been shit.

Yes but context matters, so does the eye test. Colby showed up and was as passive as Leon and that's saying something. Meanwhile, Izzy had one of his best performances and he is just better than Colby.
Leon lost by last minute KO against Usman after getting dominated for the most part, then beat him in a boring but still competitive decision and then bear Colby in another boring decision, with Colby outta it.
DDP had a razor close fight with Strickland. He then fought Izzy and finished him and then he shut down Strickland and beat him standing.
Leon and DDP are not even remotely similar.

I agree, DDP is wayyyyy more exciting than Leon too, which makes for better fights. My issue is with the UFC matchmaking in particular. Recycling the same fights with name power, in a division of guys who haven't lost in 5+ fights are waiting in line for guys at the end of their rope. Another similarity is how Leon had a close fight with Usman before the KO so they did the rematch.

Thing is with rematches is we wait 6 months for the first fight, then wait another 6 months for the rematch then another 6 months for a new opponent. The belt turn around time sucks for fans. 2x a year seems "active" now. I know DDP had a fight with Izzy in between, but UFC seems content letting the real contenders back up in a queue.

Apparently, Poatan had no idea what DDP was saying and when his translator told him, he met DDP in the match, asked him if he wanted to fight, DDP said yes and Poatan told him let's make it happen, at 205, and DDP said deal. Says if he beats Magomed, DDP is the fight.
