Immediately after Pereira’s title winning performance, he was congratulated by the UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, but as part of the tributing post
‘Borz’ told Pereira it's also a good timing for them to settle their unfinished business, as they were linked to fight several times in 2024.
However, following Chimaev’s shock callout after the brutal 'Poatan' finish, Pereira decided to make clear that he is only interested in one thing at this stage.
“Thanks for congratulating me but all I want is a super fight, and I want that fight at heavyweight - but all I can say is thank you,” Pereira replied.
Following a win, the 38-year-old revealed how he had a long callout for especially Jon Jones planned, but following the passing of his brother, Arthur Jones, the Brazilian
decided to instead pay his respects to the family with a moment of silence.
Dana White knows but says he has a hard time understanding where this specific alignment comes from, this late in the martial arts career of Pereira:
“I don’t know. There is still fights here in this division, but we’ll see..."
“Why I'm not too keen on it? Probably that he was a middleweight and he’s going to jump up TWO weight classes in the UFC,” White explained further.
“It’s not like jumping up two weight classes in boxing here. It’s a big jump. I just don’t see, unless he wants to retire, why throwing him in at heavyweight now makes any sense?"
