Alessio Di Chirico turns down post-fight interview

Why would you interview a guy who just got his brain scrambled?

The UFC stopped doing it after the Overeem "felt the tap" interview
This wasn’t an in cage interview, it was at the post fight press conference. In most cases, even a fighter who was knocked out will have fully regained his or her faculties. I can certainly understand why a losing fighter would not want to participate, however.

Fully understand his position and I think it's always a good thing to act on your beliefs and ideals, no matter if other people agree with them.

I feel like a lot of people are missing his point. You're all so fixated on the interview thing, but I don't think that's his point. He may actually have the stance that both the winners and losers should be interviewed post-fight, which isn't something I agree with, but there's a lot more to it than that.

I also think he's a real ass dude and a lot of people are intimidated by people like that. But think about it, most guys in his position would be glowing, all happy and shit, they just got a highlight reel KO, they'd be excited to have done that, especially given their underdog status. But this dude was completely aware of the scenario, and he's like fuck that shit, Dana comes to his room to congratulate him... he ain't about it. He knows what's up.

He wasn't supposed to beat Joaquin Buckley. He was supposed to be another highlight-reel KO on Buckley's record, a big win for the UFC's new boy Buckley on network television in front of a large audience. He was supposed to lose, be on Buckley's highlight reel, and probably get cut.

The guy was coming off three straight losses. He knows what it felt like to have nobody give a shit about him. Now he gets this great KO and wins as an underdog and everybody wants to talk to him and talk about him. He just wants the attention/respect level to be the same for winners and losers, and I honestly think that's dope. It's kind of a shot at shitty MMA fans who shit on fighters when they lose or fake fans who only like guys when they win/until they lose. The "you're only as good as your last fight" mentality which is unfortunately just the way the sport is, you truly are only as good as your last fight. I think all of that is bullshit and I hate it, so good for Di Chirico for taking a stand against it all.

And I saw someone say he's dumb for not using the opportunity to get some fans by actually doing the interview... 1. I'm willing to bet nobody would have made a thread about his post-fight interview if he actually did it. 2. The number of fans he would have gained if he had actually done the interview is about the same number of fans Jon Jones gained when he went to check on Lyoto Machida after their fight.
Pretty much. Nobody gave a shit about him before the fight and expected him to lose, so when people wanted to talk to him after the ko, he was like, "Fuck y'all." Just listen to the very first question he was asked: "I thought it was the other guy who was supposed to have the highlight reel knockouts...." Talk about a backhanded compliment.

Di Chirico was talking about interviewing guys in the cage after losses, which is why he criticized Anik.

Dude is a moron and so are you tbh

Respect. But weird. Most losers doesn't even want to be interviewed. One could argue that they absolutely shouldn't be interviewed after getting brutally KO'd and getting them to the hospital as quick as possible is what should happen.

Well, aren’t you a friendly and cheerful conversationalist.

Well Anik felt the need to interview Kattar.

They never learn.

He posted an hour ago on Instagram talking about it.

Said also he feels 2 of his loses were wins.

I guess I respect that.
Hopefully his opponent was getting medical attention. He got smacked around pretty good.

I wonder if he does interviews if his opponent is invited as well

I can see his point
He’s not doing himself any favours but I can see his point

Dana must have had a talk with him, now he’s thanking the boss lol

The Overeem felt a tap interview was in the cage, not the post-fight press conference.

Got a huge win on ABC with a vicious knockout over the guy who broke records for views on his video, who was also talking shit, and decides this is how he wants to act? Lol definitely not shooting himself in the foot at all!
Yup, not quite the best idea. I get that he felt disrespected but he should've realized that post fight interview was a big opportunity for him to promote himself. I get why he said what he said but it's sad.

I think because English is not his primary language, that he was frustrated at being fed to Buckley but worded it out wrong.

I don't know how you go from feeling like you won 2 fights that the judging went against you, to deciding that Interviewing losers helps rectify that..

Does he mean that he wanted to have had a moan on camera to try and justify why he didn't lose in the contentious losses then? lol

True, and he shouldn't have been interviewed at that point in time. Di Chirico was at the post fight press conference when he said his piece, though. In that context, I don't see a problem with interviewing the loser.

The sense I get is that the guy lost 3 fights, felt like he was on the verge of getting cut and no one gave a fuck about him, and Dana tossed him to one of his hyped fighters as a sacrificial lamb. Now he's getting appreciation just because he landed a nice kick and won, and he will be forgotten tomorrow again if he loses, just like all the other fighters that don't have huge social media presence, talk trash or have huge win streaks, because the UFC doesn't give a shit about him, or who he is as an individual and his need to make a living unless he produces highlights.

Or maybe he's just a weirdo.
I think you are spot on, sir

Someone needs to teach this guy about self promotion.

White knighting the loser ain't gonna pay his fucking bills

It's not practical to do in ring interviews with every damn loser. There's a thing called TV time and you have a limited amount of it. Either he's just dumb or wants to be that guy.
