*Aldo Vs Volkanovski, how do you predict this fight?*

Aldo has only lost to rangy out-fighters, his game and style is built to eat up stocky wrestlers that lunge into the pocket throwing power shots.

The physical decline on Aldo is real but it looks to be more cardio/endurance then speed, so in a 3 round fight I think he can bank on not having to conserve energy as much. Volk is a legit contender though, dude has tenacity and heart but lets be real - his last wins are against Chad Mendes (coming back from multi-year layoff, retired right after), Darren Elkins (grappler with no striking defense) and Jeremy Kennedy (who???).

Meanwhile Aldo has been body-bagging dudes like Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano, so this is a a big step up in competition for Volk, while Aldo gets to fight a stylistically favorable match-up against a style/fighter he's seen before (Volk is similar to Mendes in many regards i.e. build and style....not as much wrestling skill or counter-ability but better pressure, more volume, more chin + heart at this stage of the game).

Close fight but Aldo by decision is my pick.

Lol I like how you write off Mendes and Elkins and talk abour Stephens and Moicano without any sass. Let me help you.

Jeremy Stephens has 16 losses and is Moicano's best win.

I think Aldo could easily avoid the TDs and outstrike Volk. He could 30-27 his way to a decision.

He could...

But he will probably stand and bang for the people and the JBG making it way closer than it should be. Specially in the later rounds.

Volk is a fucking tank and can throw leather.

I think Volkanovski will close the distance as soon as he can and will make the fight dirty, combining takedown attempts with banging in the pocket and some boxing from the clinch. Volkanovski definitely has the power to put Aldo away very early, since Aldo's chin has gone through some wars with Max.

Volkswagen via making Aldo know what it feels like being run over by a car.

I got Volk in a close decision

But maybe I'm putting too much faith in Brazilian judges

With Aldo's recent form of smashing contenders, I'm favouring him to win, probably by TKO.

Volk has the skillset to beat him but Aldo has looked vicious in his last 2 fights.
The only thing that worries me is Aldo's hospitalization. He seems dead set on not only retiring this year but also fighting in Brazil so part of me wonders if he's is forcing himself to take this fight even if he isn't 100% just to be able to stick the the schedule he has set for himself. Maybe he can get away with that against most of the division but this is a tough fight for him.

Aldo via contender crushing. I think the Aldo we have rn is a wrecking machine, a 3 rder against anybody besides Holloway is perfect for Aldo. He started playing it a bit safe when he had the belt but now he's just looking to destroy his opponents.
Watching both Aldo vs Holloway fights tells me Aldo would beat Holloway in a 3 rounder. He won both firsts and second rounds in both fights and wouldn't have to worry gassing. Holloway wouldn't be able to just sit back and wait for Aldo to slow down either. He'd have to go on the offensive much earlier leaving him even more susceptible to Aldo's striking.

Well holloway did beat Aldo inside of 3 rds both times... Just saying, Aldo would of course have a good chance in a 3 rder with Holloway though.

Jeremy Stephens has 16 losses and is Moicano's best win.

That’s a fair enough criticism, except Mendes retired after the loss (end of his career) and Elkins isn’t top 10.

If you can’t face the fact that TKO of Stephens/Moicano is far better recent wins then Mendes KO/Elkins decision I don’t know what to tell you. Stephens is a far better/more dangerous journeyman than Elkins (and is still top 10) and Moicano is a rising prospect entering his peak while Mendes is a faded former contender at the end of his career.

Doesn’t mean Aldo is going to win but that’s an honest assessment. If you listed all the elite strikers Volk has beat and I listed all the stocky wrestlers Aldo has beat you’d have no one and I’d have multiple examples (Faber, Mendes x2 at his peak, MTB, Lamas). Fact is Aldo has faced better competition as of late and has fought this style of fighter before while Volk never has.

This again does not guarantee victory, but it’s strongly indicative of why to lean Aldo.

This should be a dogfight but I think Aldo can still hang for 3 rounds against most non-Hollaway fighters.

I'm rooting for Volkanovski: he's entertaining as hell and I was hoping for a new blood challenger for Max.

After going back and forth and watching more footage, i'm confident aldo wins. Volk is very good but doesn't have the volume, pressure, reach nor striking prowess to beat jose, who seems to have the speed advantage too. His ptv would be wrestling but we all know aldo's tdd is some of the best in mma. Alex is very well rounded and gritty tho, so it will be a good contest and could get interesting if he somehow gets aldo to the mat and he doesn't get back up quickly (which is a possibility, given aldo's recent boxing obsession and not much else atm, we haven't seen him in any grappling exchange in a while)

ALdo should win, he is at the end of the career but he is still beating all the contenders, has ton of experience and the skill is still there.
That being said, Volkanovski has the momentum, chin and the will to continue fighting after getting hit hard.
I pick Alexander The Great!

Volk should win, Aldo is old and slower, but it is in Brazil so they might poison his food to diminish his abilities

He doesn't look slower. But his chin is cracked.

IMO, it's a hard fight to call.

P.S.: I f you have a big problem with me using the * in my thread titles, just GTFO. Don't reply on them, don't even click on them. I use them cause that way i found them faster. Just that.

Say what? You dont have *in my, in your thread title.

I would be very surprised if Aldo loses this one. Even in Holloway fight he looked good until he gazed.

I got Aldo also. I would have loved to see him use his kick in either of those fights but he never did. Aldo with leg kicks would have had a great shot of beating Max

Why are you using * in your thread titles ?
