(Aldo-Stephens) Has anybody recovered from a liver shot after crumpling to the ground?

I was rooting for Aldo but even I thought the stoppage was a bit premature. But then I realized that no one has ever recovered from a liver shot that knocks them down. Thus Stephens was inevitably going to lose.

But I could be wrong. Any examples of a fighter (1) recovering (2) after falling to the ground (3) from a liver shot?

Scott Smith does not count since he did not fall.

Matt Brown? I think Erick Silva dropped him with a liver shot if I remember correctly.

I don’t really know if you can count this example.

Erick was so young and untested back then you can’t really hold a fight sequence like that against him. Matt just took advantage of the pure inexperience of a young prospect.

Matt brown gets rocked with body shots every fight, Ellenberger is the only one to capitalize on it.

Pete Sell vs Scott Smith. That was freaking amazing.

I think that was to the ribs and he used it to bait him in. Still one of the greatest finishes ever.

agreed I think he faked being hurt.
very smart. I dont get why fighters dont do this more often.

people talk about the mental and physical components of fighting but dont talk about the intelligence component.

I mean, he didn't crumple to the ground, but still..

Barnett did semi recover vs Mirko although ended up tapping out after being hit in the eye.

If you miss your shot you are in a bad position. Also being hurt (go figure real or fake) isn't loooking very good in the judges eyes

true
could be worth it though. depends on a lot of things.

for example, you can pretend like a leg kick really hurt you... so you're basically baiting another leg kick where you'll counter the fk out of it.

Travis Browne got crumpled and nearly finished by Overeem before he knocked out Alistair.

He was so badly hurt but he mustered up the strength to throw that punch as Drago was going in for the kill and caught him right on the chin. One of the greatest finishes ever, like you said. After the fight, he was in a lot worse shape than Drago. He might have been pissing blood after the fight, but at least he got the win. :)

Funny enough....

Sam Stout dropped Jeremy Stephens with a body shot, and Stephens was able to recover....

Pretty sure Aubin Mercier was dropped by a good liver kick from David Michaud only one I can think of off the top of my head when someone took a knee and came back
