Aldo gets super underrated in the GOAT discussion

Fedor at HW should Trump most of that last mabey beside bones. But even bones hasn't fought at HW . Most HW on his record could beat everyone on that list lol.
Even though HW is objectively the worst division for men, and even at it's height during Pride doesn't stack up to actually good divisions?
Jones has never been beat, GSP avenged his only loss and Anderson during his title run only lost to Weidman after developing a great legacy.
Conversely, they've never faced fighters even close to Bang-era Mendes or Frankie Edgar.

When Conor KO'd him inside 13 seconds, the sympathy for Aldo wasn't just because of the short fight and embarrassment.

We all knew in some way, that Aldo's legacy would be forever changed that night.

Is he on the same tier as Anderson, Jones, Fedor, or GSP? I don't think so.

But he's a top 10 fighter ever, and I think most people agree with that. He was an amazingly talented fighter, and would've been great in any rule set.

Yes. Because most HW during pride era or even UFC could one shot any top guy at lighter division.

Bob Sapp could beat the whole roster from rooster to probably middle weight by himself alone. And Bob Sapp wasn't that good. He was however 300lb and somewhat athletic.

If we start naming good HW than you should get the point.

Hold....GSP and Jones never faced fighters the level of Edgar or Mendes?? I am gonna assume that's a joke.

In all honesty, skill for skill, I think Aldo is the most complete champion in mma history. I know that’s not popular opinion but he was elite everywhere in his prime. Anderson Silva once said if Aldo was MW he’d retire lol

Be honest and tell me you can't make a case for 8-9 fighters?
Oh I agree and it's funny you used " 8-9" .... this is subjective af and i have 8-9 fighters in my personal " 1st tier ". My rankings are probably different from most .

I mean, that is the reason we have the fun concept of p4p. Putting Fedor at number 1 is like putting Ali at 1. Sounds cool with the general public, but no one seriously thinks HWs are the best fighters.

Nope, dead serious. Edgar is a shoe in for the top 10 p4p greatest fighters by resume. Jones' best win is Cormier, GSP's best win is either Koscheck, Alves or Fitch in my book? For the record I have no problem with putting GSP as #1 and Aldo as #2. GSP doesn't have a win of the quality of Edgar, but he does have more consistency across the 3 generations of fighters he beat.

And Cormier, even if we consider him in prime when he fought Jones (semi-debatable but close enough), his resume just isn't up to snuff compared to guys in the actually great divisions (BW-WW).

One of the all time greats, especially in the lighter weight classes. But even if you consider it a fluke or not, he did get embarrassed by Mcgregor, that’s always gunna be a huge stain on ones record.

I never understand this logic when ranking GOATs. Losses don't take away from what you did, they just don't add to your resume. Same with post-prime losing streaks.

Definitely top 10 IMO, and a strong case for top 5.

How embarrassingly he went out against Conor really hurt his stock bad. Then the b2b TKOs against Max.

I agree it's fun but like you said but the reality is that a bad HW can beat a good or even great lower weight fighter. It's just the reality even though it hurts people feeling.

Someone like lewis with his limited skills can ko every light weight fighter dead lol.

People like to conviently leave out all his losses and anderson losses when discussing goat. U have to take there entire record into account and he has been finished numerous times and anderson as a shit ton of losses. Both are disqulified from goat discussion same as bj penn
