I bet some of you have seen this, but for those who haven't, this was downright hilarious.

JRE podcast, where Joe is talking with a Aikido practitioner. Not sure what he's about in general, but seems very passionate on the effectiveness of Aikido. Joe pretty much puts him in his place, and I've watched this several times - it's funny man.

Check it out...

Aikido is basically a euphemism for "Eye Kid You".
Kinda like "Alimony" which is code for "All His Money".

How can anyone take that crap seriously ? Rogan trying his best to not insult the guy but he's a dipshit if he thinks that is real.

thought it was the other way around but whatever.

It has its place in self defense actually if taught properly. They teach some very good principles like evasion and proper distance from an attack as well as some pins/ restraints. If it didn't work, the tokyo police and many militaries would not use it. It has no place in mma, but does have its own merit. It is very limited and designed to be a supplemental art. It is also about not fighting. It branched off from japanese jujitsu and uses some of the same moves such as the hip toss, kimura, arm bar, and a couple other useful techniques, so don't try to say it's all BS. Eat the meat and spit out the bones. Does it have absolute shit in it that won't work? Of course but that's almost all of the styles to include shotokan. Take what is useful or what works for you and discard the rest. Not wanting to go to jail for beating someones ass, especially a drunk is always handy.

imagine if Andy Wang would just "step aside"? he'd be fucking champion!

To bad this thread got tossed in the bin. I used to try to explain the merits of alternate and traditional martial arts in forums in the late 90's and early 2000's and the responses have never changed. Judo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and the ever mystical art of death Rex Kwon Do, have all been laughed at until...Sho Nuff, a master is revealed.

Pretty much this.

As a wrestler and judoka, I cross-trained about 6-months of Aikido and thought the joint locks and come-alongs are a great complement to grappling. But the head instructor there was also a purple belt in BJJ so he may not have been typical. It also seems to have a following in the law enforcement community, and like half the students were cops.

But I agree with Rogan. Guys that only train Aikido and believe in all the mystical crap are full of shit.

I'm on the same page but you have to have a happy medium. I heard 2 dick heads going back and forth. It wasn't meant to be able to beat an NCAA wrestler etc. How many guys are trained fighters on the street? As for the aikido guy, yeah he seems to be one of the cult guys that will be in for a severe beating if he has to use it.

A decent aikido game in the clinch/closed guard could be insanely dangerous. No idea what you guys are talking about.

I have wrecked 3 aikido black belts with my measly MMA experience.

I'm a can. And it wasn't a challenge... Tough guy wannabes who throw haymakers felt more dangerous

I've never trained Aikido, so I plead some ignorance on this, but when a man is claiming that he would step "step away" or when he states that he makes people fall over without touching them LOL.

I cannot take this man seriously.
