Television AHSOKA Live-ActionSeries (Premieres Aug. 23, 2023)

OK I watched the last episode of Rebels. I'm vaguely familiar with the show's premise, having watched maybe 3 or 4 episodes flipping channels back when it was airing. Thrawn comes off as a great baddie and I'm jazzed the same actor is playing him in live action. Definitely "evil" but cultured and deliberate like Hannibal Lector.

I also rewatched Ahsoka E1 to see if I'm being unfairly critical of the show so far. I noticed the shot of Sabine looking out from her deck with Ahsoka's ship arriving in the background was a perfect match with the scene from the Rebels finale, as is the shot of the group portrait. Confirms my sense they were going for Rebels fan service, crafting the premiere to look like a live action episode of Rebels.

Here's my question: what the actual fuck was the point of emo Sabine driving away on the jet speeder? This is a 30 yo with extensive training in Jedi and Mando ways, seasoned vet who's been through some shit and holds the rank of Commander. But she was like an angry teen whose mom told her she can't have the car for the weekend. Was this some running gag in Rebels? Is she like B.A. Baracus from A-team with an irrational phobia? Maybe she hates public speaking and that's why she ditched the ceremony? Was it like Maverick buzzing the tower in Top Gun?

Because unless there's some fan service rationalization, that scene was really really cringeworthy.

Funny story the actor is Lars Mikkelsen, Mads brother who played Hannibal in the TV show.

I thought he was related but didn’t put two and two together lol. They probably had evil genius staring contests at Thanksgiving dinner.

They are Danes, so they do not do Thanksgiving.
Maybe over Christmas dinner, if they are not to drunk.

Yeah Lars is Mads older brother ( IIRC by one year)

Watched E1 and E2 and wasn't impressed. Just re-watched E1 and still not impressed, although the production value is very good. RD is holding her own (as she did in her Mando cameos) but they've set the tone of the show and it is doofy. Like in BOBF and OWK, I'm expecting some good scenes probably featuring Thrawn, Anakin and Ezra sandwiched between a bunch of bullshit like emo Sabine surviving impalement and speeding away for no damn reason.

I was expecting them to start the series from the end of E2 which is the last scene of the Rebels finale. Instead we got a 2 episode prequel which you don't know is a prequel until the end. I see what they were going for they were trying to explain exactly why Ashoka is going on this mission with Sabine(they barely interacted in Rebels). But I don't think they neccessarily needed a complex relationship to team up and look for Ezra who matters to them both. And I think ultimatly this is the reason for Sabines immaturity they tried to give her a arc reconciling the Jedi/Mando identitys. Sabines new haircut could have just been from the passage of time.

These 2 episodes feel like when you're writing an essay and all of a sudden you decide your intro flows better as the third paragraph. So you write 2 paragraphs to explain how you get to your intro. Rebels ended with a timeskip then Ashoka just silently showing up like "get in we're going on an adventure". While that was a great cliffhanger ending for Rebels it was random and there was no context to work with for a new show. So they had to spend these episodes making context.

The reassuring thing is they really didn't get started yet. Not to say I don't like it but there's plenty of reason to think the rest of the season will be different.

It's been a meh start to be honest.

The angsty teenage vibes from Sabine have been off putting. Also, the way she pines over Ezra makes me feel she has sexy feelings for him, in spite of the fact his hologram says she is like a sister to him.

There is something off about Hera as well, though I can't quite put my finger on it.

It maybe that the entire team (minus Kanaan and Ezra) need to be together.

I need more Chopper and Zeb stat.

I agree. A lot of the outrage comes from Youtube creators whose entire revenue stream comes from bitching about wokeness from Disney. Don't get me wrong, it does exist.

But these creators have to make daily content, so often bitch about shadows that aren't there.

I have zero problem with Bo Katan being the leader and good warrior. She has always been written that way.

Yea that does seem kind of "teenage angst" for no fucking reason. She's a veteran of war and commander during the Clone Wars. Why is she acting like some angry emo? I don't get it. That's not how the character was in Rebels at all.
It’s called poor writing of female characters because writers nowadays have no idea how to portray emotion without bringing it down to its basest levels.

Hera does seem weird. I have zero connection with the actress playing her even though I liked the Rebels version.

Actually all 3 protagonists - Ahsoka, Hera and Sabine kind of seem one dimensional - no emotion and dead pan.

I like Morgan Elsbeth. Fun fact - that actress is the daughter of Danny Inosanto - one of Bruce Lee's first students and the Filipino kali master in Game of Death.

Just watched the 2 episodes and it's pretty bad so far.
I like Rosario Dawson in the role, but this kind of reserved, stoic character can't carry a show all by herself if the writing/story, and characters around her all suck. (and they do suck) You need interesting characters to highlight RD's strengths and to give her something to play her straight character off.

I'm sick to death of the 'hot shot, I go by my own rules' characters in these shows. They aren't interesting at all. Sabine is annoying and completely unlikable.
"Hey, don't take this map from the ship. It's super important." "Ok. derp. **runs off with the map**:
It was so predictable, unnecessary, and just dumb.
And how can one get stabbed like that by a light saber and then be totally healed up and ready to fight in the next episode?
Hera is also very annoying and has about as much believability as a general as pink haired Admiral Holdo did.

The villains of the show might be the only thing that ends up saving this because they seem like they might be have some layers to them.

Her rear end is wide, but flat and her boobs are too small. Other than that, her face is very good.

5/10 overall past 2 episodes. They relied on live cameo from rebels characters. Action was minimal. Allot of filler time...smh.

My first thought was young Obi left Qui-Gon to bleed out while he finished off Darth Maul, but wouldn't the lightsaber instantly cauterize the stab wound?

I'm guessing Ahsoka got to downed Sabine fast enough due to the droid radio'ing for back up promptly.
Well, when Qui-Gon got killed by Darth Maul, thatv was what 40+years ago timeline-wise? So, likely the medical technology is much better. As others have also mentioned, maybe Shin didn't intend to kill her.

I lean right pretty hard but I can't stand the accusations of "wokeness" and "pandering" where they don't exist... it's like the extreme lefties crying "racisim" at anything they don't like...

Fuckers on both sides calling wolf and messing it up for the rest of us.

I'd hate to see how the 2 Terminator movies and 3 Alien flicks would be recieved by the worst parts of my side...
In today’s world it is just par for the course. It is so forward now there is no use fighting it. You just hope the writing is good enough to overcome it. In many cases it isn’t....

I'm watching this for Ray's final performance.

The stuff with him and the apprentice is good.

Dawson plays a good straight man role, but I agree with the above that she needs a better color commentator to balance out her hardened stoicism.

Any scene that shows Rosario from behind looks like she's wearing a zebra's ass on her head.

I hadn't considered the possibility that they're just starting their quest for Ezra now. But I watched the last few minutes of the Rebels finale again and you're right, it's clearly a time lapse before Ahsoka shows up at Sabine's door. And it seems intended to be literally the same scene where they depart at the end of E2. I first thought it was just a homage to it years later but yeah, it doesn't make sense that it would look EXACTLY the same lol.

But this then begs other questions like WTF have they been doing for the last 10 years? At the end of Rebels, they're concerned about defending Lothal from Empire reprisals but then Sabine after the time lapse says "the attack we were waiting for, never happened" and cites the Battle of Endor which ended the Empire's reign. BUT THAT WAS 5 YEARS AGO. So in that time, they haven't even thought about rescuing the dude who saved them and Lothal, and is trapped somewhere with an evil genius on his command ship? And this while Sabine is pining for the man?

Also, if they're just starting their Ezra quest now, what were Ahsoka and Sabine previously doing together that led to their falling out? Like what could possibly be more important than finding the guy who ties them together? And why would Ahsoka start training Sabine as a Jedi then walk away from her, as stated in the series?

Many questions to be answered here and I really hope the whole series doesn't turn out to be a dumpster fire of terrible writing.

They should rename the show Shaak Ti, because Dawson feels less like Ahsoka and more like her.

It's not even just from behind. From the front, she looks like a zebra is taking a dump and it's Rosario's head coming out of its ass. It's unfortunate and I've never understood why they made Ahsoka to look like that.

George Lucas had a thing for flaccid tentacle dreadlocks.

Don't kink shame.

They are really bad with alien costumes IMO make them look like cosplays with facepaint. They should use CGI(and for Zeb they do I think) but they clearly do not like using it. That's not her fault but that's what "off" about her. She looks high af with whatever they did with her eyes. I suspect Thrawn is going to be "off' as well just like the Grand Inquisitor in Kenobi.
