After watching the card last night I can only conclude Dana had it right the first time

Fans who pay $80+ for a card want to see the best possible athletes in the world perform

The best female MMA fighter in the world probably isn't even Top 5000, if you take every single MMA fighters into account (including males)

WMMA is a lesser quality product sold at a premium. It's a rip-off

Soon it will be 90 dollars soon. lol.

Other than a few fighters, male HW, especially if it goes to later rounds

I'm not against them having their own league. I just don't like that they fight on the men's card. Someone said on another thread it's like having to watch a WNBA game before the NBA game. I agree with that take. There are a few talented women here and there but it falls so far short of the men.
If only it was like that! Then you can skip those fights and tune in directly for the male fights. In this case it's like having quarter of an NBA game followed by another by WNBA, etc...so either you're going to watch it all, only check the results or do something else and only tune in from time to time which defeats the purpose of purchasing a PPV.

Women have not evolved to fight, some can acquire legitimate skills but watching an entire sport of 200 women for 2 or 3 that are competent is not enough. You can like, respect and cherish women and still be aware of nature and evolution.

The UFC was heavily invested in Ronda and this was the first problem. When she retired they kinda just backed away from 135 division all together.

The other problem is no secret at all which is a lack of talent. The HW division is plagued by this too, except they have the ability to finish and will likely go for a finish because they are obese with a lack of cardio. Holly Holm is going to ish her way to 50 at this rate

I've always enjoyed WMMA, especially title fights and high level fights. Those can be few and far between but I've always enjoyed the big fights. There are a lot of stinkers outside of big fights, but that comes with the territory.

Overall it's horrible, but it's part of the business model now. It keeps them from getting cancelled, it allows them to fill slots on each event much cheaper on average, and gives them more options for each event.

That was horrible. She wasn't even close enough to make it seem like she was landing. Ricky Turcio against Zahabi is the only thing I've seen close to that. Some of Hollys fights she pretty much wins on missing shots but she's at least close enough to fool some people.

Although there are sporadic fights that are somewhat entertaining, overall I think WMMA has been a huge flop. There’s just not enough talent. And even if there were a lot of talented women out there, the majority of men don’t enjoy watching women compete in sports. It’s simple as that.

All of the things wrong with WMMA you can sometimes find in MMA in general, but WMMA just does it more frequently

Half the top fighters seem to have barely .500 records and you never know if you're going to get a fight or a glorified sparring match

Women's Jiu Jitsu is actually usually MORE exciting then the men's. It's weird that it's an outlier but those ladies get on it!
women have a greater advantage in nimbleness and dexterity than men.
I agree womens jiu jitsu is exciting. i like wmma but only few stars
women dont take getting rocked easily as well as men
cause men grow up fighting and its rare for us to really get into fist fights so we have a disadvantage
we really gotta take the pain in stride but it's hard yknow so respect on that front for even getting in the ring/cage but yeah.

Even women don't like women's sports outside of playing themselves.
Men don't give a fuck about cheering for other men. I'm not sure women would love to cheer for other women, especially for women that would beat their ass.

I
Aldana was expected to be an exception to this. She usually looks pretty good. I know that men respect women boxers a lot, I've seen it, i practice combat sports and whenever a guy sees me, he tells me to get my hands nice, become a good boxer.
Amanda nunes is elite though so of course it would've been a tough fight whether she looked good or not.
I would have expected at least one round where she gave amanda some trouble, based on her previous fights, at least she did something against Holly holm, who is actually indeed an elite boxer. I gotta hear wth her excuse was for being so shooketh.

Same here. I don't tune into newbie fighters, until they start getting bigger.

i fastforward pretty much all womens fights. i wan to know what happened but there is too much garbage. the discrepancy in lvl between men and women is inmense.

this guy had some good input on the fight
"they take up fighting cause they dont know how to fight. That's why when they train, they learn how to fight, but they don't know how to fight outside of their training"
That's a good way to put it.
The natural aggression isn't there, just technique.
I think that's a common issue regardless of gender and that's where the inherit ability comes.
Now if you can fight with all technique, that's amazing. That's probably what a guy like Fedor Emalineko is.
but ofc he has the natural aggression too but his technique is just so good.
Amandas technique was looking good last night too. Some of the best wrestling shots ive seen, male or female.
edit: then again, not sure if alanda knows how to defend them well. gotta appreciate the boogie womens, joanna's, anti wrestling in that regard. Good times.

Also, I think i noticed aldana give up mentally. I forget what round it was.
Nunes took her down, they scrambled a bit but aldana got up, hit her once and for a second their amanda couldn't catch her footing. She looked like she didn't want to take advantage of the moment, it would definitely look like a cheap shot but alls fair in love and war. I would've taken it, she didn't i recall even amanda looked a little confused by it. HAHA
smh aldana smh

Not sure if this is publicly known but apparently Amazon outbid ESPN for the rights for UFC but they had a condition - 50% of the fights had to be WMMA. Could you imagine if they accepted?!

can't believe last night was the main event, that display of athleticism, was just poor. there are only at any given time, maybe 2-3 to actually watch for. besides that, the level of skills, athleticism, doesn't translate to "the best" when actually watching it. UFC should stop signing these absolute middle of the road, Thursday night cardio kickboxing types, and if they are going to pursue WMMA, sign only absolute killers of their respective field. Make it like the 90s again. Sign high level BJJ specialists, high level muay thai specialists, wrestlers, judo, etc and just let it fall where it may. There is nothing worse than watching a "well rounded" pitter patter fest where no implications exist and it is also not exciting to boot.

This is obviously correct, but it is even more steep. They aren't in the top 50,000 and even that is generous. Similar to basketball. Sports like golf and tennis actually do have elite women competitors and as a result much higher viewership as well.

People wouldn't ever pay to watch the best 11 year olds either for the same reason. People want to see the best, last night a random lottery of the crowd beats one of the main event fighters... it just doesn't sit right.

Someone else in this thread mentioned that about cornering women fighters. 3 out of 500 can fight so when they do fight other women it is completely unfair.

Makes more sense to think something was wrong with Aldana last night, not all of WMMA.

Women's boxing is crap, even though there's been mass participation and national level amateur programs for decades.

So women's mma will probably always be crap.

Just make sure they're all hotties and the guys will tune in.

Their champ got bored winning and retired. Aldana put on a pathetic display. Hunched over looking through her fingers and didn't throw a single strike. How people thought she had a chance when she got out grappled and dominated by Holly Holm is beyond me.

Hey be fair she landed one good strike haha

It actually looked like it stunned nunes but she just stood there instead of trying to follow up
