Didn’t much care for Janela initially but don’t mind him now. He’s definitely improved during his time in AEW and appears to be leaving in better shape than he was when he showed up.

I do think they could have done a little more with him, as well as people like Avalon, Kiss, etc., but Tony is all about those new exWWE toys.. which is understandable.

They tried featuring him in big spots when the company started. Matches with Guevara, Mox, Allin, MJF, and Omega were all perfect opportunities to have him get over with the crowd. It never really seemed to happen though and he just got relegated to Dark.

He put on some good matches, but there was never any real follow up. Then COVID hit, people got fired by VInce, and he just got pushed down the pecking order.

AEW had those guys like Janela, Avalon, Kiss in the beginning when there wasnt as many other big name indie guys around/NXT was still the thing. so they were needed.

Avalon was never gonna get to any other point beyond a comedy jobber. Dont see the problem there at all.
