Additional weight classes could mean fewer interim belts

It's obvious that WME wants more "money" fights, as evidenced by the increase of interim belts that we've been seeing lately. The logic is that a "title" fight will sell more PPV's, even if it's for a fake belt. Additional weight classes will provide more opportunities for legitimate title fights, and could reduce the need for interim belts.

OR

It could just mean more interim belts.

It’s an opportunity to hand out even more bogus belts.

I think the latter. There could be more champions wanting to go up in class which means more belts held hostage and interims.

And UFC please, don't apply the dumb idea of making 225.

No. We just need to start stripping fucking titles . Fuck a weight class

205 to 265 sounds crazy, but we're already short on good HW's. Anything that would pull from that already shallow talent pool would devastate HW.

Maybe some rules should be put in place so things can settle out. For example, you have to defend two or three times before challenging in another division.

There was a good thread about criteria for stripping. To my surprise, there were actually some pretty decent ideas thrown around.

If there was a rule for a champion that he should be allowed to fight in different division only when:
a) there is no clean contender in his division
b) he's rescuing a card (Max or Silva style)
c) it's his retirement dream fight or something
and champions would be obliged to defend at least once a year (and when you're a champ champ twice a year - once for each division), this would be perfect.

But perfect rarely exists.

Good idea, but if a HUGE paydays occurs, you know what the UFC's gonna do.

Along with stricter wight cutting rules, we would have less injuries and health problems.

Khabib vs Tony at 165 would finally happen.

True. There would have to be exceptions, and that would piss people off. Could be viewed as favoritism.

That's definitely an added benefit imo. I've heard people say that it could incentivize a fighter to cut more though, in certain circumstances. For example, you already cut a lot to make 170, then they create 165, so you'll be tempted to cut an extra 5. I think if they spaced weight classes out 10 lbs. across the board, it would help with this. Create 165, and fold 170 into 175.

165, 175, 185, 195, 205, 220, 265

And STRICTER REGULATIONS.

Huge LW will have to fight at 165.
We need licensing by doctors for weight classes, no more Rumble BS.

It means best fighters will not fight each other and MMA will die.

There already wayy too many divisions

This isn't a good idea, Rogan is senile

It means MOOOOOOORE interim belts!

Holy shit there are just a platoon of inbred mouth breathers roaming around this forum now.

It's ok to have differing views on weight classes.

More weight classes means more legitimate title fights, which could alleviate the need for last minute fake belts. If you have two title fights scheduled and one drops out, you don't need to scramble to save the card with some bullshit fake belt. It's not bulletproof logic, but worth speculating. Open your mind sherbro, and your heart.
