The town of Arcadia California has gained the nickname "the Chinese Beverly Hills". Peggy Fong Chen, who makes a living selling high priced real estate in Arcadia, says that almost all of her buyers are from mainland China. She also pointed out that almost all of her clients pay for their multi million dollar homes in cash. Many Chinese billionaires buy these homes along with exotic cars for their children who are often sent to American colleges. Others use these mansions for the less wholesome purpose of housing their mistresses. Whatever their reasons may be the Chinese elite are buying up American real estate to the tune of $22 billion last year alone.

too much competition driving up RE prices in major metros, making life miserable for people who live there and do not work for electric car companies, or met Harvey Weinstein (generalizing here).

Good for sellers, bad for domestic buyers, what is more important, you decide.

These wealthy Chinese are pumping tons of money into the local economy and local workers, and besides that, what they are doing is legal. If any native-born Americans don't like it, they should be angry at the American politicians who have paved the way for this to happen. Arcadia may be around 75% Chinese now, but so what. This does not mean that China is taking over the US. Arcadia is a very small city.

The US is at least reaping some benefits from the wealth surge of Mainland China, and good for the US. And t's a give and take thing too...China is spending lots of money via its nationals in the US, and the US is providing nice homes, a nice lifestyle, and even an education for its youth and young adults.

My only regret about all of this is that Americans will get a bad impression of Chinese people, an impression of the whole which is based on the personalities of the super-rich. Regular Chinese in Mainland China are very wonderful, friendly, down-to-earth people (I used to live in China), but that is not reflected in the super-rich.

When I was studying at UCLA, there were a ton of Asians and Asian immigrants who were studying there from abroad. The joke going around was that UCLA stood for U C Lots of Asians. UCI had a similar nickname, University of Chinese Immigrants.

The UC system was charging an arm and a leg but it was no problem for them. Most spoke broken English and it was one of the worst kept secrets that they would pay students to do their work, unless it was some STEM course.

Some places are dependent on that RE sales to foreigners especially these resort town areas in the Carribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama. They are okay with it. It has really helped out their countries, as they offer little else. SoCal is a different animal. A lot of people are very unhappy about this. It is not just SoCal. Even Vancouver Canada has this issue, NYC too.

Apparently a lot of people are not seeing the benefit of having chinese money pumped into the areas RE especially the young people.

A lot of those kids are a trip. Not uncommon for some to pay someone to go to their classes for them. In my experience they're not very ostentatious either. So it can be quite a shock when you agree to go over your FOB buddy's house for drinks and the address is in Laguna Nigel and he's got a fucking wraith out front.

The women are one of my buddy's target demographics and I don't blame him.

fobs who have money and don't deserve it. they get punked by the ghetto asian kids and join asian gangs to fit in.

UCLA, UC Berkley, San Fran State, Cal State Fullerton, UCR, UC IRVINE, these schools are filled with Chinese and Koreans.

UC Riverside has a lot of Asians for sure, whenever I ride through that freeway you see them racing their rice rockets at night like fast and furious.
