Social A sport dumber than Powerslap just dropped :

I'll let the Mayberry make the rounds with it, but @650lb Sumo made a thread for this in the SB six months ago, and I'll merge there once it falls off the first page.
Run It Straight

Props to 650 Sumo.
This is a better OP than mine.

Called the RUNIT championship league, the sport made its debut in Auckland last week, with $20,000 on the line to whoever wins.

But what is it and why is it so controversial?

RUNIT is a competition built around actions seen in rugby union, rugby league, the NFL and AFL. Opposing individuals – a ball runner and a tackler – stand at each end of a 20m x 4m field, and run full speed at each other with the goal of trying to bowl each other over.

The RUNIT website lauds it as the 'fiercest, new collision sport. Born to go viral, built to break limits, it has taken social media by storm with tens of millions of views. RUNIT is fast, intense, and raw. It rewards strength and grit. Designed for live crowds and global broadcasts, RUNIT delivers real athletes and the biggest collisions.'

Where and when can I see it?

Two trial days were held at Trusts Arena in West Auckland on Monday 19 May and Wednesday 21 May, at 6.30pm on both days.

It saw 16 players competing for prizes of $20,000. The top eight earnt a spot in the final, which will be held in June at a date yet to be set – where the winner will take home $200k.

We used to this as a drill sometimes when I played rugby. I thought football was similar?

Why does one of the players carry a rugby ball? What difference does it make?

CTE is bullshit. These athletes had normal mental illiness. It does play a factor. But people act like it's the main reason these athletes lose it. complete nonsense

This is just going to result in a bunch of broken clavicles speaking as a person who broke his clavicle in 2022. Lol it is basically the most tailor made way to break a clavicle.

What a fantastic sport for Polynesians. Hopefully soon we'll see some crossover athletes competing in both disciplines. Either way, I am happy to see them succeed in something they love doing. God bless them! 🙏🏻

we used to do this shit in football but fuck doing it without pads lol. I got ran the fuck over one time by this MJD style running back, dude steamrolled me like I wasn't even there. :(

This sport is for people who can't cut it for the big leagues but already experiencing symptoms of CTE.

I can't help but think this sport will come to an end after somebodies brains get splattered onto the audience. Really strange idea.
People have died already.

I've no interest watching stupid people hurting each other.

What I do is Buhurt. Probably similarly dumb but I'm the one doing it!

good luck with your anal penetration

Interesting that you went for hurling instead of hockey or shinty.

Shinty would be another solid pick.

A hockey fan tells me they're actively trying to reduce even fist-fights on the ice, never mind using the stick.

lol, whut? CTE causes physical changes to your brain, how is that bullshit?
I'm not disputing that. I'm taking issue that it is the sole factor making guys go crazy. I bet every HS player to the NFL has CTE. Yet they are all not losing their shit and acting insane. Every time a NFL player acts out there are people saying "oh it's CTE"

That is what I doubt.
