Im a huge nate fan and I was one of the few who gave Nate a small hope of beating Chimaev but lets be real, 9 times out of 10, Chimaev would have ragdolled Diaz badly and could have potentially finished him. All because Chimaev basically fucked up his weight cut (which was documented by various sources), he pretty much missed out on his title shot at 170. To illustrate this point:

1. Leon Edwards beat Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June 2021:

Leon Edward's next fight was for the WW title at UFC 278 in August 2022:

2. Jorge Masvidal beat Nate Diaz at UFC 244 in November 2019:

Jorge Masvidals next fight was for the WW title at UFC 251 in July 2020:

3. Conor McGregor beat Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August 2016:

Conor McGregors next fight was for the LW title at UFC 205 in November 2016:

4. RDA beat Nate Diaz at UFC on FOX 13 in December 2014:

Pretty much anyone who has fought and beaten Nate since 2014 has fought for a UFC title in their next fight, and 3 out of 4 times, has actually been successful in that title fight. Therefore, statistically, we can say that not only if Chimaev had fought and beaten Diaz would his name obviously be more popular amongst casuals: but also there's a high chance statistically that he would have fought for the WW title next, and probably would have replaced Colby in facing Leon after the Usman trilogy. So missing weight against Diaz pretty much cost him his title shot.

What are your thoughts Sherbros? How badly do you think Chimaev fucked up in retrospect by not making weight against Nate and thus earning that title shot by potentially beating him?

That's an interesting statistic/trend. I do think Chimaev and his team have mismanaged his career for the last year or more.

You are aware that nate diaz has 13 losses in mma? 11 of which were in the ufc. 4 out of 13 is a bit of a stretch to reach that definitive conclusion of " pretty much guarantees"

Since 2014 though. Nate has fought 8 times since 2014 (going 4-4) and everyone that has beaten him since then fought for a title in their next fight.

Nate can thank conor for that over inflated rank since pretty much all of those wins over diaz only counted for something since he beat mcgregor. Still though. OK I appreciate your point.

It was great for everyone that fight fall apart and you can say it was a divine intervention. Because a Chimaev-Diaz fight was basically a legalized manslaughter.

I recall everyone happy with the way things turn out fans, UFC board etc etc and everyone

How were they happy with an inferior product and shit PPV? I’m willing to bet real money and my account that Khamzats behavior probably burned the company money.

Nate-Tony was a shit fight

Khamzat was given a layup and tripped at the foul line. Having said that, don't know why they needed to give him a "hype" fight, when he seemingly had plenty. Only 'problem' was a non perfect performance against Burns.

Could have just fought anyone else with a number, like Luque, Brady, or Masvidal

Yeah, also I think his attitude surrounding the botched weight cut also rubbed Dana and WME the wrong way and he put Khamzat on the shelf .

Part of being a champ is being professional and Borz needs work in that area.
It was like every event he was at after that was him fucking things up too. Couldn't have a weekend without "khamzats team has to be separated backstage" or some shit

Nate-Tony was a shit fight

Chimaev-Holland generated more interest then the previous fight. The UFC were happy with the outcome the card become superior

without mentioning Nate fought tony and submitted him and went to fight Jake Paul and got a huge paychek despite losing by decision. All in all i'd say nate was the most favored despite the circumstances.

I remember the changes making that card better as well - the original Diaz vs Khamzat, Tony vs Li fights caused a storm on here (rightfully so).

Those two fights were unbelievably cynical.

The UFC sent that doctor into Chimaevs room to tell him to stop cutting weight because of the backlash that match up received. He was 173lbs on the night before the offical weigh ins, I believe him when he says that he could have made the weight. They stopped him and told him to put weight back on and fight Holland at 180 catchweight. Chimaev unknowingly took the fall for the UFC.

Also, did you see his performance against washed Tony? Chimaev would have slaughtered Nate and finished him 10/10 on that night.
