I always like to go back and read how Hagler trained, someone who took his craft seriously.

ISOLATION FUELS HAGLER'S INTENT: http://www.nytimes.com/1981/01/16/sports/isolation-fuels-hagler-s-intent.html

HAGLER, HIS DUES PAID, FINALLY TAKES CENTER STAGE: http://www.nytimes.com/1983/10/31/s...inally-takes-center-stage.html?pagewanted=all

Lot's of dune running, running backwards in old boots. Only him and his team present (well apart from the seagulls he befriends).

I came to MMA from boxing but i think Hagler is still my favourite combat sport athlete. Always thanked his sparring partners as well.

Hope the articles are interesting to the forum.

Nice find TS. The articles show how dedicated Marvin was at being the best he can be. His physical and mental game were both on point, and Championship level. Seems like a humble guy that came from nothing, and saw boxing as a way out. His drive, combined with heart, skill, mental toughness, focus, made him as good as he was.

Always interesting to read pieces from back then, even if most things about Hagler are common knowledge.

I like it how some myth is busted in the second article : while part of the Hagler-Leonard mystique is about SRL finding out Hagler's being right-handed on his own, and acting accordingly in the ring to avoid the lead right hand, Petronelli had already made it clear to the NYT journalist back in 83.
